What do you think of the lack of continuity?

What do you think of the lack of continuity? The uniforms don't match up with the original series to be a pre-quel; The technology, the Klingons, and interior design of the ships etc. etc. don't match up with the original series.

Its a complete mess, they are trying to be original but yet use the same communicator and sounds as in TOS. And of course the Klingons get rebooted again. Don't get me started on the plethora of lens flares and camera tilting. Half the show was at a 45 degree angle.

Uniforms and ship design don't bother me in the least. The Klingons on the other hand, I hated - not because of continuity issues, but because they look grotesque!

reply

I agree with you. This doesn't resemble trek that people are use to seeing. It's gone even further away from the look of trek than even the Kelvin timeline stuff. Also is this a reboot? Because it looks nothing like prime timeline trek.

reply

Untalented hacks whose sole purpose was to launch a streaming service - equals a show with no spirit, no charm, no humour, etc. And not humour like stupid forced out of place badly written jokes; rather the interaction of charming but very contrasting characters.

I've followed a lot of the stories done on the production of this show on the youtube channel Midnights edge. Basically from that I got the impression that they fired anyone that knew about star trek, and replaced them with people that down know the lore, and do not give a crap.

reply

It was all about formula and audience stats. Gene would die again if he was alive!

I wouldn't mind the Klingons looking grotesque, if that's always the way they appeared. But after the original series they settled on a look and these guys are completely different. The entire look and feel of this show differs sharply from any other Trek franchise - TV or movie. Like the holographic transmission with the admiral walking around the bridge in his virtual persona. This is supposed to be about ten years before Kirk but even in TNG they never had that type of 3D ship-to-ship comm system.

And of course, there were the extensive containment fields. Including around the brig. The Federation seems quite a bit more advanced here. I think we can safely assume this is an alternate timeline. The question is, will they eventually tie it all together with the mainstream Star Trek timeline or remain separate and unconnected going forward? Discovery is so different from what I expected, I haven't decided yet whether I like it or not. But for the time being I'll certainly keep watching.

I'm not paying CBS a monthly subscription to stream this email insult to fans and basic human intelligence.

reply

Neither am I. Go to the Torrent Store, that's where I do my shopping!

: )

This doesn't feel like the Prime Universe at all, it feels like JJ Abrams alternate reality.

reply

I think if they were trying to offend trekies they succeeded. I watched the first two episodes, will not be paying to watch more.

reply

You know! $5.99 monthly to see lizard klingons and a humourless show?! Even data provided comedic relief.

reply

Grow up .... uniforms ... are you kidding?

reply

Grow up? An insult is your argument? Yes, the navel like military uniforms in a pre-quel should take after Star Trek and not TNG or the reboot movies. To change the style entirely is a disservice to fans. So is the TNG ship design, so is any continuity consideration. Even basic continuity like hair style changes in the same scene is important. That's actually a job/role, like gaffer or editor etc.

reply

The argument you missed is implicit, this is a petty thing to make such a big deal over .... just in my opinion. I did not like any of the stuff you mentioned, but had the characters and plot been strong I would not let uniforms make the difference.

reply

Opinion is right. To many fans and audiences in general, continuity is make or break. Uniforms is just one example. But entertainment is subjective.
