I have no doubt a great, original movie with an all-female lead cast would be awesome. I just wish the studios wouldn't cheat by trying to piggy-back on the name of a previous, successful franchise (see: Ghostbusters). I believe women can always hold their own in a film and they deserve sharp, original material to work with. Sequels, reboots, etc., sell these women short. Give them an original script already! If Hollywood is serious about taking women seriously, stop giving them training wheels.
(And yes, The Book Club may not have done so well, but at least it was an ATTEMPT at original material)
There's perpetual talk of casting a female to play James Bond (Jane Bond? Jamie Bond?).
Atomic Blonde was wholly original, made back twice it's modest budget and did well enough with critics and moviegoers to earn a sequel. It was a female driven movie that stood well enough on its own, no need to fall back on a re-make of a male led franchise.
It can be done. No amount of good will generated by associating a 'female' movie with an established 'male' franchise will overcome a bad script and mediocre directing. (I'm looking at you Ghostbusters...).
But there were no g-g-g-g-girls leading it! and they're so icky with their soft squishy parts!
As for Ghostbusters, I saw the remake once it was out of theaters because I had no burning desire to see it. Was it anywhere good as the original? No. Of course not. But it was not the crime against humanity the internet painted it to be. Plus, i checked after seeing this and no, my copy of the original did not magically disappear.
TJL, snarky, not-too-intelligent comments add nothing to the conversation. If you had anything resembling critical thinking and reading skills, you'd understand my comment had nothing to do with the fact that women were in the movies. Quite the contrary. And I see you presented the usual nonsense about the original "not disappear(ing)" because of a remake. The logical fallacy you make there is thinking the two issues are related. In the future, PLEASE think a little before you post generic, emotional nonsense that contributes nothing to the conversation.
Of course you're crying. You're crying like a little bitch because a movie is coming out. The real question is why do you care? Why does this movie existing cause you so much anguish and upset you so much? I cant imagine being so pathetic that a movie simply existing causes me to foam at the mouth.
You're rooting for the movie to fail, which is hilarious. You're obsessing over a movie that isn't even out yet. Most people would just not go see it, but you're here crying and whining like a little girl.
All you're doing on this board is crying about this movie existing. You're so angry its coming out for reasons that aren't clear. Again, I cant imagine a movie causing an adult so much anguish and anger.
It might fail. It might suck. If it does, who cares? It's a movie. Lots of them fail. But you're just constantly whining and bitching about it for no reason at all.
Here you are desperately clinging to the pathetic notion that your crybaby comments somehow affect me while you seemingly defend a film doomed to fail.
Only one bitching...is YOU.
All you did in this latest response...is repeat the same bitching.
Whatcha gonna do for an encore, throw your rattle at me and bite your pacifier in half?
We all SHOULD care because yet another redo/remake/reimagine/rewrite/rerun of a film is coming out, taking up valuable space AND TIME, where another, fully original, BETTER storied film would have played. Now, we may never get to see something original in this space.
Maybe Schrodinger's Cat can hook me up to see that alternative film? :D
There's new and original movies every year. Acting like we'll never get any more is absurd.
There are a lot of remakes and sequels and reboots today, but this movie gets more hate than others before it even comes out. Personally I'd rather see this than Jurassic World or Transformers.
Ocean's 11 is a remake and for whatever reason, I can tolerate it. The complete decadence is both fascinating and infuriating. I suppose that's the film's appeal (and, to be honest, the original Ocean's 11 is a bit boring).
I was just thinking... how cool, interesting, and appealing this might have been, had that NOT made it an Ocean's tie in?
Picture it: some slick, all female crime caper thing, a great trailer, cool story, interesting clever dialog, could have been a huge hit, maybe sparking up another great franchise.
Sure, might of had some familiar territory as another film set, but what doesn't anymore, am I right?
Call it, "The Girl's Game", whip out all the stars in it, give a dynamic soundtrack music, BAM! Major hit!
Instead, it feels like another money grab with the younger sisters of a big brothers movie.
The point is it's a movie designed to be entertaining. If it's a good movie, is it really worth the bitching? Especially when you admit you were okay with Oceans 11 being a remake. Again, hypocrisy.
Haha - I'm still waiting for the Hollywood to turn Huckleberry Fin into a gay orgy. Lots of dudes in those stories and very few females - it only makes sense for the liberal H to make the move.
By the way - while Ocean's 11 remake was ok - the sequels were truly horrible.
In other words, they are trying to piggybank on franchise which was already in the coffin.
Expect sequel quality - you know, seriously horrid writing.
