Is Raya a Disney Princess?
She certainly fits the mold of one (mostly) although she doesn’t sing a song. But then neither does Merida. She definitely represents a unique (and sizable) cultural group. I’m on the fence.

shareHell yes, she's a princess! And so is her super-butch frenemy with the muscles. They are both introduced as the only daughters of monarchs, and are called "princess", they're Disney princesses.
And that's a big part of the reason that this movie is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me, the fact that the star Disney Princesses are butchy types who seriously try to kill each other at one point, and that they are bound together in an intense relationship that leaves no room for a prince.
Everyone knew neither would kill the other in any fight. Boring.
shareStill, I thought it was hilarious to see two official Disney princesses seriously deciding that the last thing they're doing to do before the world ends, is kill that other bitch of a princess!
People say that "Frozen" messed with the Disney Princess tropes, but not like this movie did!
