The lab building when it was small.....
All that jostling around in cars, being carted around like a piece of luggage...wouldn't have all the crap in the lab been just trashed?

shareYes.
You're just going to have to overlook that plot hole and movie logic inconsistency.
haha i spent a lot of time during the movie thinking about just this.
shareInertial dampeners.
No less unbelievable than shrinking a building.
Maybe a Stasis Field to hold everything in place when shrunk?
shareWell, arent you supposed to be much more sturdy when you are shrunk (which is why they survive getting thrown around so much)? Wouldnt that also apply to everything in the building?
shareTrue, but wouldn't everything in the building be strewn all over the place when they went back into it after it was made big again?
shareWell that depends on how the forces interact with the shrunk objects and ho well nailed down everything is. I agree that there was little in the movie that made sense from a scientific perspective but they got at least some surface level explanations which is good enough for enjoyable fantasy movie.
Also the ants may have tidied things up.
The whole "shrink space between atoms" thing never worked for me anyway, so I liked to imagine that Pym's tech actually warps reality around the shrunken item, giving Pym the freedom to make it heavy or light at will.
While shrunken, the building would be mostly in another reality or dimension, immune to forces and impacts in ours.
That'd also fit with the comic-book explanation of where Hulk's extra mass comes from (again, another dimension).
Guess I got the notion from Danny Dunn, where the "smallifying machine" traps holds of your atoms in stasis, leaving you with just enough to "be small." Sort of like becoming your own mini avatar.
And I also thought of that classic sci-fi story where a fourth dimensional creature manifests itself as a fleshy ball that grows and shrinks out of nothing.
Probably none of this will actually be borne out in the movies though
Besides, I prefer Strazdas's idea of ants tidying up
I like the alternative dimension theory too and good point about it being used for Hulk already.
shareThe assistant ants have been trained to hold stuff in place or strap down valuable equipment, and to have everything else cleaned up and tucked away by the time the humans come back.
Which is no less silly than anything else in this film!
