Why remake this?

Did anyone in Hollywood really think there was a clamor for a remake of this? Even if this was yet another remake thought up as a money decision, I honestly don't see anyone making much cash off of this. It's a dull, lifeless film with no reason for being.

Have a short review of this movie if anyone is interested. If you feel there is something I could be doing better, I would definitely love to hear it. Review here - https://youtu.be/DP3MHBK4hV0

I honestly wasn't expecting much...but good job..very thorough, honest and concise in a brief amount of time.

I haven't yet seen this remake but one thing they never seem to consider in their mindless quest to clone a money maker is that most films become classics not only based on story and direction (although remaking with another point of view would always be a good idea) but that it's often the chemistry that existed within the original actors that creates the magic.

I'm sure the original here would be highly forgettable without the presence of Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman.

thanks so much. really appreciate that.

And yeah, it's very well known the older one wouldn't be what it was without McQueen (I hear this was his best role ever) especially and Hoffman. That was really absent here.

"I haven't yet seen this remake..."

Huh?

4 years ago .......but clearly I can see I was referring to the ops review. Not the film...

Also I think it's obvious I'm generally not a big fan of classic films being remade. There are exceptions but it's usually a mistake.

Disagree with you. This was a great film. Forget the fact that it is a remake and you probably would have enjoyed it.

How hollywood remakes work: Take a movie that was popular. Remake it (preferably by changing it to be more woke). Be surprised it does not do as well as the original. Rinse and Repeat.
