Ozark first half of season four thoughts (Spoilers)

I enjoyed the first half of season four. It was great to see Darlene go down but I was hoping Wyatt could avoid that fate. I was kind of hoping to see that detective get offed since he was knocking on everyone's door at 9pm every night. He reminds me of agent Petty from the earlier seasons but the new guy at least is focused on his work instead of having lots of gay sex.

Wendy became just such a bitch this season. I was kind of surprised Wendy was getting in Darlene's face since Darlene is likely to pull out a shotgun at any moment. They spent a lot of time on Wendy's foundation instead of the core business. Jonah was turning into a problem for the family since he was working for their rival.

I found it hard to believe an FBI agent would be able to independently arrest a drug lord. The FBI agent's career would take a hit and she would have to get paperwork signed by her supervisor if she was going to conduct a raid.

The intro scenes were confusing since they were not in chronological order. I thought the SUV crash was in the future unless I missed something or I forgot a prior episode. The recap posted below was pretty helpful for me to catch up on the first three seasons. The one big mystery for me is whether Marty was in on Bruce's initial embezzlement scheme. It'll also be interesting to see in the second half of season four whether the family can escape from this ordeal with their lives.

Frank just walks in Darlene's without a gun or back-up and lets Darlene leave the room, grab a gun, and blow him away????? I love the show but c'mon. He knows she is crazy and not afraid of anyone.

reply

Frank wouldn't show up without some muscle. I agree that some of the situations in the show are not realistic. I thought Jonah's falling out with his family didn't make sense and Javi Elizondro was too efficient as a super assassin.

I was really tired of Wyatt.

reply

He didn't really bother me but I was getting sick of Darlene. I hope Wyatt's brother Three gets to inherit the land. Wyatt's death is a good reminder for viewers that people who get too close to a criminal might get caught in the crossfire.

Agree about Darlene and Wyatt. Thought it was amazing in itself Darlene made it through to S4, so maybe Javi coming in was now her logical closure point? In view of the fact that the cartel should’ve taken care of her after the Del incident, I was all the more shocked and saddened about Wyatt. Wasn’t his fault.

I don’t see the surprise in Wendy’s character arc this season. Given all
That she went through in S3 with her brother, and then with Helen being offed and on top of that, Navarro short-circuiting without notice, I’d probably
be rather unhappy too..

As far as the intro scene with the suv, I suppose we’ll have to wait for Part 2 anyhow…

I was starting to think that Darlene was going to be an immortal superhero since she kept shooting her shotgun with impunity. The show could become a tragedy in the second half of season four but I'm still eagerly awaiting the final episodes.

You're right that Wendy's frustration is understandable since they are in such a stressful situation. Watching Helen get gunned down would be traumatic and she is probably coping with her brother's death.

One guru on youtube said that the suv accident is a future scene. I've started to rely on youtube season/episode recaps to figure out what is going on with all these shows.

reply

The YouTube recaps are great. I started watching it from the beginning again and after a few episodes I said forget this. I have too many other things to watch. Watched two different recaps and everything came back to me which saved me hours of rewatching every episode again.

Let me start out by saying I absolutely love this show, and I really liked this season.

That being said, why did Javi have to be a character at all? I know…plot device…accelerant to other issues….but it felt rather funny to have Omar Navarro complaining about Javi’s impatience when that was a dominant personality trait of his. And Omar is wanting to get out, but do we know why Omar really needs to ‘get out?’

reply

It's a bit odd to introduce a major character like Javi in the final season. It also seems odd that Omar wants out and I don't know why he would trust the US government. I hope they aren't just copying the news since the US had a deal with one of the cartels a few years ago.

It's a Honda Odyssey van, and Yes it's in the future. I don't remember how we "knew that" while watching it, maybe there's some discussion that it's finally over.
