I'm confused about the camera flash thing (spoilers).

It makes their real personality surface and take control, but how? Aren't their brains discarded and replaced by other brains? They are basically a vehicle for the white people's conscience. Maybe I'm daft so could someone clarify this to me?

It makes no sense to me either, when you take into account the brain switching. It's not like the muscle memory just switched to gear, it was the personality of the victim.

Maybe it was something that they put in there that you have to take at face value and not think too much of the logic behind it. Or they just goofed up.

Maybe someone can explain the methaforical meaning behind it.

I think I will watch it again. I must have missed some details. I remember one of the creeps telling Chris that he would be like a passenger, watching it all from the deep, like in that hypnosis scene. If they mixed their brains it's possible, otherwise it's a huge plot hole.

I agree. If the film was wackier it could be overlooked. But they played it relatively realistically (until the brain switching stuff), so it should've been explained better. Or I missed that part too lol

I liked that big reveal though. It's a cool movie. I think we start understanding all the symbolism after a couple of rewatchings.
That deer analogy was great.

I think they mentioned at one point (may have been during the pre-op video chat with the blind photographer guy?) that "a sliver" of their consciousness remains, and maybe just enough to take control if the white person's consciousness is momentarily distracted or disconnected by the flash (as it seemed like). At least, that's how I took it.

I remember that they are in there somewhere, even though the white person basically has full control of the body. You're probably right about the flash.

I'm trying to go for an engaging, funny youtube channel so, if you have the time, take a look. Hope you enjoy what you see. Thanks in advance. A review of the movie here-https://youtu.be/Tb0kPow-1D4

I watched your review and agree with the points you were making. While watching it, I just realized something - at the beginning of the movie when a cop confronts them and wants to see his driving license, she confronts the cop and we presume that it's because she likes to cast herself as a white savior. But knowing what we learn later in the movie, that was because she didn't want the cop to be able to connect her with him once he's reported missing. (I'm sure this observation has been already made somewhere, as people here are very good at dissecting the clues)

The dad explained it when the fireplace was burning

I must have missed that. At which point in the movie?

The better question is: Why did his flash go off in broad daylight to begin with?? That's one shitty Windows phone right there!
