Prediction: This will be rated between 7.0 and 7.2...
by the end of 2025.
shareDoubt that it’ll probably stay the same.
shareIt started at 7.9, and it's been dropping about a point a week since it opened. It's just a question of when it stabilizes. Now that it's available on streaming it will have a much bigger audience than it did in the theater. Personally, a 7.3 would seem reasonable to me. I think it will dip lower, however.
shareStreaming for almost two weeks now. It's 7.4 with 130k votes. Unlikely it will drop more than 0.1.
share7.2 or 7.3. That's my final offer. Those who saw the movie in theaters either really wanted to see if, were Egger fans, or both, and will tend to rate it higher than casual viewers. That will tend to lower the average.
shareIt's down to 7.3 already on both IMdB and here. MovieChat's rating sysyem is tied into IMdB and is usually lags a week or so behind. Whatever it drops to on IMdB will show up on MovieChat shortly.
Whatever or wherever it ends up being - in time or even now, it will be considered a great movie and on BFI’s Sight & Sound lists (next one is 2032 since it’s every ten years). It will be in the Criterion closet and heralded by cinephiles. And Eggers is held in high standing by those in the film industry, film students, and the American Cinematheque.
shareAs long as it's lower than the Murnau and Herzog I don't really care. It's below them both now, and rightly so. So 7.2 or 7.3 is good enough for me.
shareIs this IMDB? What difference does it make 7.3, 7.4? Even Coppola’s. Is IMDB a big deal? I certainly wouldn’t judge a movie by an IMDB rating. I mean who really takes the time to rate anything there.
shareCoppola's Dracula doesn't deserve anything higher than a 7 either, by thecway. .My point about IMDb is that MovieChat's ratings are tied to IMDb's. Check it out if you doubt me.
You're right about the ratings being meaningless, though. Murnau's Nosferatu should be 8.2 and Herzog's around 7.9.
You know - they are ALL good for different reasons. And really - with the IMDB ratings - they are just off by a few points. At one time, the widow of Bram Stoker sued Murnau’s film and won. There was a court order to destroy all copies. And that happened. Some things remained and they were able to piece together this great and monumental film; the one you want to have the highest ratings. It mentions in the intro of the film what they had to do. True cinephiles through various methods preserved a film. Eggers’ movie is a good one. And so is Coppola’s. Kinski as Nosferatu was spectacular. We are lucky to have all of them.
shareIt's 7.3 now. This snoozefest keeps dropping like a stone.
