Bikini in 1935

Was odd to hear that term used 11 years before it was coined.

Only what you would expect from this series.

Did they really use the term itself? I didn't hear it.

Of course midriff exposure had already started happening in the '30s:

I came to this message board to post about this very thing. I don't know if they had Bikinis before 1940 but they sure didn't call it that. And are you sure it was coined in 1946. The name came from the the island the US was doing nuclear testing near, Bikini Island. I thought it was early 50s.

I also thought this was common knowledge. Maybe the Brits don't know it because they werent the ones radiating the South Pacific.

Ha! I was just going to comment on the same thing. The term wasn't used until 1946. From Wikipedia: "The name for the bikini design was coined in 1946 by French engineer Louis Réard, the designer of the bikini. He named the swimsuit after Bikini Atoll, where testing on the atomic bomb was taking place."

You are all right...Cancel the series immediately!!!......

I was also bothered (slightly) by the use of that term, and I don't tend to notice such things, usually. Glad to find out that I was correct in thinking it anachronistic.

Just make a movie that makes me care, one way or another. I'm open.

It is not fair to expect historical accuracy from a television show.
