I'm on episode 8 and I've been somewhat enjoying the show, Danny Masterson and Ashton Kutcher do a great job, Danny Masterson holds up the comedy part a lot better I think Ashton has his moments but the Dad wow what a *beep* dick, his character is so unlikable it makes me almost hate the show everytime he walks on screen I know it is supposed to be a tough time for him but how can you relate with such a stubborn old *beep* of a person? I dont want things to get better I want him to lose the *beep* ranch and then die of a heart attack.

Other than that cool show lol.

He is a jerk yes and very stubborn. I still like him though.

That fact that the dad is a douche makes him likeable and makes the show work.

Being from rural America, I can tell you that the characters are authentic. I know people similar to all of them. Sorry that you don't get the true nature of Beau Bennett. There's a lot of love for his family in that gruff exterior.

I guess I'm an @$$hat as well. I relate heavily with the dad character. I feel you just gotta toughen up and grow up. I am surrounded by layabouts. Everyone wants a job, but no one wants to work. The character has a responsibility to teach he sons to be men. This isn't to be taken lightly. He is running out of time to see them mature into full time ranchers. His boys are risking generations of back breaking work for a good time. I am not a fan of the mother. She runs when things get difficult. I hope she has some redeeming qualities in season two.

I just found this show in Netflix. I am in agreement with the op. I live in the South, I lived here my whole life. I know people who have farms and no one I know acts that way. It is the exact opposite as a matter of fact. The character of Beau is cruel, stubborn to his own harm and he is unlikeable. He makes the me very uneasy and uncomfortable to watch. The way he treats his kids and his wife is repugnant at best. No wonder Colt and the mom moved the hell away.
