Some stuff may have worked better than others, but I thought this was really fun. I unfortunately thought Parker Posey was pretty weak in the first half, and bringing Corky in was altogether unnecessary and out of place. There were some good newcomers though. Look forward to watching this again. Love Christopher Guest's movies.
I liked it a lot, but I feel that the 3rd act was a little bit weak. The mascot routines could have been funnier but I appreciate the subtle humour they were going for (I thought Laci Babineaux's existential dance number for a mascot competition was hilarious).
But yes funny movie, which might be funnier on a second viewing as the humour in this movie is unpronounced in most places. It's not a movie you can idly watch and catch all of the subtle bits of humour, it requires a person to actively be watching it.
My favourite laugh was Ed Begley Jr.'s "anatomically correct" donkey mascot outfit, it wasn't just the gag itself, but Ed's delivery in that scene was so deadpan it was hysterically funny, I had to rewind and watch it a couple times after! He's so serious about it and it's so ridiculous haha, loved it.
Yeah, it's funnier on a second viewing for sure, I laughed more on the 2nd go than I did the first time around, and that's a rarity for a comedy. I love all of the characters, everyone did a fantastic job! Ed Begley Jr. was certainly my favourite though, his interplay with Jane Lynch was superb.
