Just thinking out loud here....We have all come to expect a new James Bond after a few movies but Mission Impossible IS Tom Cruise. What happens when Cruise is finally too old to be Halo jumping, helicopter flying and just running across roofs in general. Do they kill off Ethan Hunt and bring in a new agent or does someone else turns into Ethan Hunt a la James Bond

The Jeremy Renner's character was already supposed to take the lead with the franchise, but since Ghost Protocole got successful, it's been decided to keep Hunt as the main protagonist for the sequels. But basically, it gives us a hint at how Paramount intends to handle the future of the franchise.
