How big is Jim Parson's role?

If it's more than a few minutes I'm not paying to see this.

It's more than a few minutes.

reply

It is a fairly big role but he does a great job.

reply

He plays the bad guy, which is a great gig for him.

reply

He's pretty much the bad guy every week on The Big Bang Theory.

Problem???

reply

Anything wrong with Jim Parsons now? Makan!

reply

It's a supporting role but an important one. He plays the lead engineer and Taraji Henson's boss.

reply

The character is not well executed. Not sure if the writing, directing, or acting is to blame, (probably all three). I was hoping Jim could do something special with it, something different from Sheldon Cooper and the Intel spokesperson. But it turns out very bland. Very vanilla (no racist comment intended).

reply

Ha, that last line made me chuckle. But you're right, his whole character is basically a cardboard bad guy who is trying to stop them because...i dunno. There's no depth or reason behind what he's doing, we don't know anything about him as a character beyond 'he wants them to fail.' The writing is lazy at best, and he basically just delivers the lines like he does in that awful TV show.

I'm not sure if it's the character or my inability to divorce this character from Sheldon Cooper. Then again here he is playing a nerdy scientist looking very like his BB character - perhaps he needs to pick a radically different role to escape type casting for the rest of his career?
Regarding the character it's interesting they had that little scene at the end to prove the he's changed (evolved?) and was working with Catherine as an equal - which presumably also makes him a better manager.

reply

He had a big role in the film.

Parsons is part of the main cast, but has less time then Henson, Spencer, Monae, Costner and Dunst. His character starts out as typical racist, but in the end is portrayed as one who works well with his colored co-worker.

Parsons does not play a version of Sheldon Cooper in this film.
