I enjoyed this movie
It jumped right into the scenario almost immediately.
You follow our protagonists as the chaos erupts and eventually consumes the entire city by the end of the film. Really felt authentic as it was filmed on location in Brooklyn, no soundstage, with long takes following the events as they unfolded. It was scary and interesting all the way through and the way they slowly ramped up the chaos with each passing scene kept the tension going.
The scene where the Orthodox Jews fought the paramilitary group using rifles and molotov cocktails was really cool and was a highlight of the film for me : )
I also liked how we got to see some people help eachother and yet others took advantage and hurt people for gain made it feel more real. And we see a mix of characters reacting differently to what is happening.
Trying not to spoil much the ending may be a turnb off to some people but that was pretty realistic and hits you like a gut punch making it even more authentic.
I even enjoyed Bautista bearing his emotions and pouring his heart to the girl he just met hours before showing some vulnerability in this tough situation. The guy was still a hero, helping random people he could, but he had feelings too and already endured so much before the city erupted in chaos.
I think people should give this one a watch. Its one of those movies that grabbed my attention and wouldnt let go until the films ending! I even watched the 7 minute making of the film extra on my Bluray, thats where the filmakers spoke of where the idea came from and how they wanted to film on location where they lived.
I rated it 7 out of 10! The long shots and takes made me think of 1917, a film I rate higher, but Bushwick is worth at least one watch people!
