Wonderful!

What a wonderful film. I was already hyped up because of the Taika Waititi connection since I love What We Do in the Shadows and I wasn't let down in the slightest. Funny, touching, just the right amount of sad. I loved the characters, the performances, it looked beautiful. Just a great movie all-around.

Yes, I really liked it a lot. I don't know why people had a problem with Ricky. He might have seemed annoying at first, but he kinda grew on you and I think he was a very intelligent kid. Eventually Hec thought so too.

The child was behaving like a cynical adult, and that's quite disturbing, but I understand the point of the film is to bring him back to his innocence and real life. But I prefer children that talk and seem like children, those kind of children that in real life are annoying to adults, but for the right reasons.

not child - teenager. young adult

I agree. Taika Waititi is a great director. All of his movies have this unique humor in them. I'd rate Boy slighltly higher than this but not too far behind. Loved both and What We Do In the Shadows too.

This movie was a real treat. Great acting all around. Comedic timing on point and the cast was perfect. No to mention the awesome soundtrack and cinematography. Wonderful, wonderful movie.

Agreed. It's one of my favorite foreign films (I'm not a New Zealander). Everything about it is top notch notch, and I laughed from beginning to end.

Agreed, I think it might be my favourite of Taika Waititi’s films. It’s got just the right amount of sadness and emotional depth without ever getting to the point where it’s tonally jarring like can sometimes happen in comedy dramas.

Love the adventure aspect as well and the cinematography is incredible.

I think you guys liked it more than I did. This is my second Taika film and I liked the first one I saw, which was JoJo Rabbit, a lot more than this one.

JJR is a great film, but I found Wilderpeople to be just alright. The best thing about it has to be the cinematography. There are some beautiful shots in this movie, there is some great camera-work going on in this little flick. However, the jokes are alright, I've seen a few of them in other films. Parts of it are pretty funny though. It has a certain charm to it, I can see why some people would like it a lot.

Anyhow, I'll give it a 5.9 out of 10. Not too bad, I kinda liked it but nothing spectacular. I will say this, Wilderpeople definitely reminds me of Moonrise Kingdom, which I would say is also quite a bit better. I would highly recommend it for those that like this.
