LOL: pickaxes in a coal mine in the 21st century? Uh, no.
Out of all the things I could possibly find unrealistic in such a film, the thing that actually bothered me the most was portraying a young man in apparently the present day (there are smart phones and iPads shown) from West Virginia having flashbacks to when he worked in a coal mine, and it’s a bunch of dudes with hardhats and headlamps swinging pickaxes at the wall. 🤦🏻♂️ That’s not how mining works in the 21st century, or even the late 20th century. It’s all operation of heavy machinery. Did the filmmakers not actually know this, or did they think audiences needed to see this archaic visual representation to get it?
BTW, I have never been in any kind of mine in my life, nor has anyone in my family or anyone I was ever friends or acquaintances with. I just know this from watching the news and stuff like that. It’s also kind of common sense. We all know that at construction sites they use backhoes instead of having a bunch of workers with shovels, so why would we think mines are any different just because we don’t see them every day like we do with construction sites?
