Does season 5 even MATTER anymore? (Hear me out)
So, Imma be honest. I get that the Duffer Bros are perfectionists. I get that COVID messed things up... But like, the whole draw of the show was "tween sci-fi" when it started. Yes, it calls back to a lot of stuff us 80s kids grew up around... But in terms of the amount of time has passed since season one, we've gotta have hit the 1990 mark here, and the main characters are young adults now. I just... I feel like the Duffer bros never meant for it to take this long. Even forgetting about COVID, the time between seasons was just too much. A LARGE portion of the kids they got interested in this show are probably at an age now where their peers would think they were weird for continuing to watch it. Things just become "uncool" after a while. That's just how growing up works. Us 80s kids would stick around, because we're not expecting to grow up with the characters. But kids DO expect to grow up with the characters their age. And obviously the big gaps in season kinda foils that whole plan. So, the kids who loved it during the first couple seasons aren't gonna be interested anymore... And the kids growing into the age range where watching this is appropriate are gonna look at it and say, "how am I supposed to get into a show that's 5 seasons deep?"
The filmmakers obsession with perfection basically killed this show. And that really sucks. I'll still watch it, but I fully expect the ratings for this upcoming season to be the worst yet.
I HOPE I'm wrong but... Eh... I really don't think I'm wrong.
