Did she

was getting that thing out of her leg harder than closing the gate in season 2 because the bite didn't turn off her powers right away and her powers still work until she pulled that thing out of her leg like maybe she blew out that part of her brain and stuff broke around her people think stuff is still in her leg keeping her powers turned off

It looked like they got most of the Mind Flayer stuff out of her leg, but if some got into her bloodstream then yeah - the infection would've taken time to multiply and spread. That would explain the delay in her powers crapping out.

The part of the Mind Flayer that was driven out of Will stayed dormant until a new gate started to be opened. So if El is now infected any new gate being created (say by the Russians) would leave her just like Will in season 2. It would begin by invading her dreams and showing her glimpses of the Upside Down world, then maybe talking to her, taunting her. She'd be in a fight for control without her abilities to fall back on.

Her powers stopped right after she used them to pull the thing out of her leg, and stuff blew up around her, they didn't grow weaker. I think what ever part of her brain she used couldn't take the strain and finally gave out, and she could close the gate because she wasn't as damaged as she was in season 3.
Her nose bleeds would of stopped when she moved small things her powers couldn't be trained to become stronger, unless she ate healthy and exercised maybe, so all the times she used her powers it took a physical toll on her, and it wasn't some infection, if it was she would of maybe got a really bad fever or something.

She hurled a car through the air and killed a bunch of Russian soldiers at the mall after that. Remember? It wasn't until a bit later when she couldn't flip the car rightside up so they could remove the ignition cable, then tried to crush a simple Coke can and found she couldn't even do that.

reply

Yes after she pulled the thing out of her leg with her power straining because it fought her and glass and stuff breaking around her because she had to use so much she couldn't move the car after that

reply

If you're talking about the tentacle mouth from the monster, she pulled the Mind Flayer gunk out of the wound at the convenience store before they even went to the mall. Same place Lucas found the fireworks. Later on Billy went to that exact spot and collected it, like the T-1000 stopping to absorb a little glob of itself that broke off. That's where the infection would've come from, if El didn't get rid of it all.

reply

no they where at the mall when they noticed her leg and something crawling around in it Jonathan grabbing a knife from the food court to cut her leg open and a wood spoon to bite on and he tried to grab it and she pulled it out with her mind and she threw it and hopper stepped on it because they all where all at the mall

reply

Oh, you mean the slug. Yeah. I think that was probably the same thing we saw Will puke up at the end of season 1. We don't know how it would've affected his abilities since he didn't have any.

If (as I suspect) Brenner catches up to El next season, we may get a medical explanation of some kind. Still she would've gotten that thing from the bite and if removing it didn't stop her powers from being disabled then something else - like the Mind Flayer's assimilation virus - must still be in there.

reply

Well that was the one was the one Dustin found he named in season 2 Dart this was something else, part of the mush monster the weapon The Mind Flyer used to fight El and would of just went back to being part of the whole if hopper didn't kill it.

reply

Maybe so. Will's slug was better behaved and took longer to mature. It was just sort of using him as an incubator. This one seemed to be attacking El from the inside, trying to kill her.

It still doesn't make a lot of sense to me that her powers could be disabled even after it was extracted. She's battled things that struggled hard before. The mashed up people monster, Billy, even the Mind Flayer itself at the same time she was expending so much effort to close the gate.

reply

we'll say she basically suffered a ruptured aneurysm

reply

Safe bet we'll find out the answer next season.

reply

yeah

reply

I would still watch the show if Eleven never gains her powers back

reply

Oh absolutely. It would be kind of a bummer though. After having so much of her childhood stolen, she deserves to keep the one upside.

reply

yes.

With El losing her powers, I believe this is going to have a huge impact on her mental state. Depression among fear and anger will surely rule her emotions as she tries to regain this vital part of her being. Symptoms of insanity might also play a part the longer time goes on. There may be only one person that can help her and again it will cost El her freedom.

reply

Actually, I was sort of thinking that Brenner might show up and capture her and then learn she can't use her abilities - probably after a number of fails including a test where El believes she will die if she doesn't use them. I mean if a person doesn't do something under those conditions they're probably not kidding that they can't.

A battle of wills between El and her old papa could be an interesting storyline. She's back in his clutches but not the timid little thing she once was. I've always wondered if Brenner considered her nothing more than a means to an end, or whether in his own twisted way he actually thought of her as a daughter.

reply

Yeah I’m confident that we’ll see Papa again. No! El isn’t the timid little girl that she once was, but she is still quite young. I believe that she can still be easily influenced by Papa’s manipulation if they happen to meet in her weakened condition. Not sure how Brenner really feels about Eleven or if he considers her his daughter at all. I do believe that his manipulation of her will always be top priority. One would have to think that sooner or later, El’s revenge will come to pass.
