Ok Nancy Steve is hardly responsible for Barb dying

I don't get why she wants Steve to think he is partly responsible for Barb dying. I mean i can understand Nancy feeling some blame over it but shes gotta throw it on Steve as well? Nancy chose to go the party, Steve didn't force her.

It was at Steve's house, and they left Barb alone.

If she had simply fallen into the pool and drowned, would they feel no responsibility?

reply

Again still has nothing to do with Steve, they both chose to go to his house, Barb chose to stay there and sit outside, Nancy told her to go on home. If Steve was aware there was a creature lurking in the woods and he still let her stay outside then yeah he would have some blame in her death.

And no if she had fallen in the pool and drowned it still wouldn't be on Steve, Barb was old enough to be left alone by a pool and shouldn't need to be watched like a 3 year old.

I always thought that was the point. In reality it's not any of their faults, they just feel guilty about it (especially Nancy). Is what happened to Barb a tragedy? Of course, but could any of them have guessed that a monster from another dimension would come to take her away? Not a chance. But it happened — and not too far from them, might I add. They lived while Barb didn't. It's not so much a logical thing but an emotional one, classic survivor's guilt.

I agree. They didn't open the gate or bring the monster in, but they left Bard alone after she came to the party with Nancy. If Barb had been raped on her way back to her car, I am sure Nancy would have been upset even though she didn't directly cause it.

By the way, Steve provided alcohol to a minor at his home. If Barb had drowned in his pool, you better believe that lawyers for Barb's parents would have placed part of the blame on Steve and his parents.
