Great Zombie film with one bleak ending
Damn that ending get's me, Justineau (Gemma Arterton) is pretty much a Dead Woman walking waiting until the supplies run out. Just her crying at the end before she teaches the half zombie kids tells you that. Funny that the kids were behind lock and key now they are free while Justineau is behind lock and key. Bleak ending indeed.
I remember Empire Magazine given this 5 stars, while it's not quite that awesome. It's better then the 6.7 on IMDB. If This was released say during The Walking Dead's peak or before it, it probably be received a lot better then it was by critics and fan's alike.
Sure if you looking for jump scares and plenty of Zombie action, you don't get it here really. I find the first 20 minutes a bit of a slog but once you get to the bit when Glen Close is about to operate on Melanie, then the places get's attacked that's when the film kicks up a notch. Paddy Considine and Glenn Close plus young Sennia Nanua as Melanie are all excellent. I'm a fan of Gemma Arterton but this isn't one of her strongest performances, she's fine but the least interesting out of the cast. For zombie attacks, the attack of the Army base is the standout.
Overall I'd give it a 7.3 at best.
