shareHadn't it occurred to you that maybe, considering the complete zombification of London, amongst other places, that the human race in its current form was TOO FAR GONE to make a recovery? I simply see what happened as Humankind 2.0, where the only food around is the skyrats and dogs and cats of the world - and good riddance to them, frankly. Other seminal sci-fi have wiped out dogs and cats, so why not this?
"Too far gone for a recovery" = speculation
Right before they go out and find the black soldier, they communicate on the radio with some people. They also got the car running, so they were on their way to meet them.
There was some hope that humanity, or at least these protagonists, would have made it.
I took that transmission of them being overrun because did it not abruptly end?
