‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ Eyes $45M Worldwide Opening Weekend, Looks At Thanksgiving Long Game

I have a feeling that opening weekend will gross under $25 million in North America. Most theaters now have reserved seating, which can be seen online. Ghostbusters: Afterlife looks very weak, compared to what advance bookings looked like for:

Eternals
Dune
Halloween Kills
No Time to Die
Venom: Let There Be Carnage
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

It might do something like the $22M opening weekend for Candyman, which only had 3,560 theaters. Ghostbusters: Afterlife reportedly is opening with 4,300 theaters on Friday in North America, but relatively few people are buying tickets for Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

I am going to go see it Friday morning.

Saturday Am Update: Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife is beating its $30M-$35M industry expectations, with an expected $40.5M opening weekend after a $16.5M Friday, which includes Thursday previews. Of that figure, Plf screens and Imax are driving 35% of the gross for the Sony movie.
