Why?
I didn't see why they made the last movie. Why make this one? The series ended at Ghostbusters 2.

shareBecause bigshot executive at some studio isn't willing to fund anything that isn't "pre-sold". So since someone else got the rights to all the other hot young-adult books and TV shows that are still being re-run, this chickenshit executive decided to fund the remake of some older movie that everyone still likes.
And Ackroyd came cheap, so there we are.
Ackroyd produced the last one. He could be that executive.
shareGhostbusters has the potential to be a franchise. Could've made more after 2 sometime in the 90's.
shareI'm glad it ended when it did. The sequel was not as solid as the original (Pete needed to be with the rest of the gang more than with Dana). The cartoon was okay, but it was up against stiff competition. It seemed to end at the right time.
shareUnless it was a odd or even numbered thing.
shareYes, not every original idea needs to become a franchise.
That said, I hope this movie is successful. I'd enjoy another good ghostbusters movie.
