Should they do it without Bill Murray?

Since he never wanted to do a third movie and put it in development hell for so long because nobody wanted to do it without him.

reply

Frankly yes. I can be content with just Winston and Ray. I know I am in the minority but I actually like both of them over Peter Venkman anyway.

reply

They shouldn't hold up the project just for him which can lead to massive issues.

Ray is the more logically choice to train new Ghostbusters.

reply

Bill Murray is not a easy guy to deal with or convince to have in a film.

reply

Venkman less Ghostbusters can work look at Extreme Ghostbusters.

reply

Yeah, sure why not?

reply

People say he's critical to the franchise's identity and the new movie can't be made without him.

reply

I get that, but if he has no interest in doing it, I don't think that should put an end to the film being made. At the end of the day, it all comes down to how the character is written, I'd rather no Venkman then lacklustre Venkman

reply

They should not put an end to the film or hold it up just to please the fans. A new generation of characters can work as seen with Star Trek. They can do a Venkman type character in the new team.

Like with 2016 GB the film is in a rock and a hard place fans want Bill Murray but that's never gonna happen.

Not likely to cast anyone too famous as Bruce Willis in it because it could be too distracting especially if they are associated with something, that's why you never have someone like Tom Cruise cast as Bond.

Rick Moranis hasn't made a film in twenty years.

It's nearly always best to go with unknowns or young up and coming actors in these films supported by established actors.

reply

Not necessarily.

All my lady friends AND my daughters think that dork in the new Star Wars films who plays Han Solo’s evil son Kylo Ren, looks like an UGLY Keanu Reeves.

Apparently Disney doesn’t believe in a GLAMOROUS young cast to take over the reins?

Look at the disastrous results of “SOLO: A Star Wars Story”’s dismal failure because of it.

They paired the poor black English guy with an ugly Asian when we know she looks pretty in real life...but insisted on giving her the ugly treatment.

But there’s no hope for that young buttface who plays Kylo Ren.

This reminds me of the 70s PORN industry who cast fat, ugly air-conditioner repairmen and paired them with hot, young women with tight bodies because their idiotic philosophy was to make ugly men feel like even THEY could get laid by a hot chick.

WROOOONG!

Beauty all around or you’re six feet underground, you twits!

reply

"Apparently Disney doesn’t believe in a GLAMOROUS young cast to take over the reins?"

That wouldn't be plausible. Nobody GLAMOROUS takes an interest in the paranormal.

Movie franchises can work without their original star like Mad Max Fury Road.

reply

Also X-Men: First Class, Iron-Man 2, etc.

reply

Have one of new team members be like Venkman.

reply

Yeah, hire someone new to be the smarmy funny cynical guy. Murray has better things to do these days.

And they only need one of the original cast to serve as the teacher/mentor/father-figure character, and then they only need to sign him for one or two films. Because the teacher/mentor/father-figure character ALWAYS dies, that's right there in Hero's Journey 101! Mark Hamill should have remembered that.

reply

The new team would be have counterparts of the original team. Need someone new to be a Venkman counterpart for the franchise needs young blood and Murray is a old man and is longer the hot thing in comedy.

Dan Aykroyd can easily serve as the mentor character handing the Ghostbusting reigns to a younger generation.

reply

I'm going to disagree, and say they shouldn't copy the original team too closely. The new team need to have distinct personalities, people the audience can respond to in their own right, and not actors who are imitating the original team. Of course the team will need to be similar to the old team in that there needs to be an engineer and at least one paranormal expert, and IMHO by now it'll be necessary to include a programmer to make all the computer and wireless components work.

The 2016 remake actually got that right, and also included an expert on local history, which was a good idea. If only they'd included more laughs, the movie might have been a complete success!

reply

I didn't mean copy but fill the roles that the originals did.

reply

Well, I'm going to politely disagree again, because the original team consisted of one engineer, one paranormal expert, one guy who had all the funny lines and didn't do much, and one guy who was just there.

I really think everyone on a new team should have valid skills and roles.

reply

His presence would distract attention from the new team.
