Sigourney Weaver won’t reprise her role as Ellen Ripley: "That ship has sailed"

Sigourney Weaver made waves in the sci-fi/horror subgenre as Ellen Ripley in Ridley Scott's 1979 hit Alien, reprising the role in subsequent sequels Aliens, Alien 3, and Alien Resurrection (as a Ripley clone). Although, while stars like Harrison Ford have gone on to reprise their iconic roles in reboot/sequels or franchise-ending films, Weaver has no interest in returning as Ripley.

"There are all kinds of younger actors taking this kind of role. And there was an Alien [film] that I really wanted to do with Neill Blomkamp and we didn’t get to do that, but, you know, that ship has sailed," Weaver says in the upcoming issue of Total Film magazine(opens in new tab), which features Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny on the cover. "I’m very happy doing what I’m doing. I put in my time in space!"

She'll be 74 later this year.

Should've happened for summer 2018 when it was supposed to, shed have only been 68/69 (but looked about 55), actually I just checked her list of performances and see that she had a gap on her film list in 2018 (unusual as normally she has multiple projects every year) its like she cleared any other work specifically to do the Aliens sequel. but it didn't happen

Do we need more Ellen Ripley? I thought the films were about the aliens, cyborgs and horror in space.

As much as I love Ripley, this exactly.
Same problem with Star Wars. Massive universe > always about the same group of people and the same shit.

Well... yeah. Not only is she too old now, she's gonna be busy doing Avatar sequels for the rest of her life.
