The state of Hollywood Comedies

Neighbors 1 was bad, this was worse. Why has American mainstream comedy become so dire? When you think of the sophisticated gold of Billy Wilder or Howard Hawks, the slapstick of Laurel and Hardy or Buster Keaton, the inspired nonsense of the Marx Brothers. Nowadays, we get 'f...' every other word, jokes about tampons, babies playing with dildos, etc. Where's the wit, the wordplay, the pathos, the heart? Twenty years ago we had Groundhog Day or Clueless. Now we get Horrible Bosses, Hot Tub Time Machine and this. What's going on?

reply

It was bad, but so is all that old stuff.

Damn OP really started blabbering on about how comedy was better in the 1920s-1940s. Yeah right buddy, you enjoy your silent comedies from nineteen-twenty-whatever.

reply

YOU GOT OLD...WE ALL DO...MYSELF INCLUDED...MINUS NOSTALGIA AND WITH AN INCREASINGLY HARDER TO SATISFY SET OF REQUIREMENTS FOR NEW MOVIES...IT BECOMES HARDER TO FIND THINGS YOU ENJOY.

reply

Absolute nonsense. What makes you think we have "AN INCREASINGLY HARDER TO SATISFY SET OF REQUIREMENTS"? Nonsense. Some people enjoy quality entertainment, some people don't care as much, you being part of the latter.

reply

BECAUSE IT'S TRUE...THAT IS HOW THE HUMAN BRAIN WORKS.
