Why Throw The Camera Away? SPOILER

Why would he throw the camera away when it showed the fight with the step father holding the knife? He easily had a self defense plea. I can possibly see that he panicked with not calling the cops and such but why did he go through with the murder plan and head to Vegas?

I understand that he was planning to go to Mexico but why wouldn't he have sent the couple on their way and drive himself. Why would he go with that crazy dude where anything could have happened?

With all the things that didn't quite make sense to me it still was a half way decent movie.

He did almost send the guy away, but at the last second, he had the idea to frame him for the murder. That's why he went with him, and why he insisted they take his step father's car... because his dead body was in the trunk.

I agree with what @fifthfreedom says, except it doesn't explain the camera.

Maybe it's just another in a series of bad decisions Harper made. Remember, he's not off the hook, as Johnny can still implicate him, esp. since Frank's psycho prison inmate friends will be looking for him.

Since Cherry is also a scammer, she might "milk" Harper for more dough in Mexico.

This reminds me of the book ending of "The Getaway," where their troubles just begin once they leave the US.

Ironic the kid's name being "Harper." That character is cool and makes right decisions, handles himself well... or at least recovers from bad situations. It wasn't accidental, given the movie poster on his bedroom wall.
