I don't think so. Tics are either Tourette's or a neurological problem. Thinking it's a telltale of lying is naive. And if you read my post further down, turns out he just had neurological surgery. So obviously it was neurological.

You quoted 'tiny facial movements', Durst blinks so hard he almost shudders.
And i don't think I'm "so smart", I just happen to have been looking at my husband's face daily for the last decade+ who blinks and twitches EXACTLY like Durst, so I have some familiarity with the causes of this. Also, you haven't addressed the new fact that Durst recently had neurosurgery. He may have had a tumor or neurological problem.
People lie every day and they don't blink themselves out of a chair like Durst.
All I'm pointing out is that I highly doubt
Durst's tics have anything to do with lying. He also blinks hard when speaking of benign things. Watch it again.
And why are you insisting on an apology and inferring that I'm stupid? Why so angry?

And here's a definition of tics and how they present LOL.

We can both back up our claim. Your def included using Lance Armstrong as an example, but was he blinking as hard as Durst? Or were they just normal blinks that happened too often? Everyone is taking about the WEIRD blinking, twitching, talking to himself and bathroom
sounds. You have to admit, like I said earlier that he was blinking so hard he would almost shudder. It wasn't 'normal blinking.
When I lie for example, I may (I don't know) blink more often, but it would be soft blinking. My eyes don't flutter and I don't squeeze my eyes shut like Durst.

We could probably argue this for a year as your firm in your view as I am. And listen, I do believe that Durst "Killed them all", I'm just saying that in his case, his hard blinking, eye fluttering, body twitching, throwing his hands out, weird noises and muttering can't be used as an indication of lying. Those physical presentations are a whole nother problem all together.
Do you blink like your trying to hold your eyeballs in when your lying? Or do your facial expressions remain unremarkable unless someone was counting the number of times you blink 'normally', meaning, without the blink involving your whole face?

My husband has constant facial twitches also. His eyes do the same thing as Durst.
My husband suffers from Tourette's syndrome and that's how his Tourette's manifests. My husband is a very good man.
Durst's twitches may be Tourette's or he may have a neurological problem. twitches aren't necessarily a telltale of lying or being...bad or evil in some way. I love Durst's twitches because I love my husband and his twitches also.
You people are so small minded.

My repeated expressions of love for Robert Durst? I never expressed any love for the man. I'm debating twitches as an expression of lying. What I said is my husband twitches just like Durst and love my HUSBAND'S twitches and will add now to clarify that because my husband twitches himself silly and I love the man that I find it endearing and I wouldn't like to think that someone who twitches that badly would be automatically thought of as lying BECAUSE of massive involuntary twitching.
Please don't twist my words.

I have been getting sooo many responses to everything I say that I'm realizing that people are just having a go at me. Probably because I screwed myself a la Robert Durst style (LOL) and made admissions about my personal life. Thank you for helping me put it in perspective.
Honestly, I've gotten SO MANY responses that it's getting tired now and I have nothing left to add.

No disrespect, but really, get over yourself. The OP asked a valid question and he/she is not the only one who thought that way. The 2 people I watched the finale with both mentioned it and I did too, I felt like he twitched in a way that made him look guilty. I noticed when he was talking in a way that sounded semi-truthful, his tics were not nearly as noticeable. And btw....it's not exactly unheard of for people to have physical tells when lying.

Not all of us are savvy enough to understand Tourette's, nor do we actually know people who have it, so instead of assuming we are small-minded, maybe just simply offer an educated reply and leave it at that.

And, it doesn't have to be one or the other. Durst has some kind of neurological issue that makes him prone to the twitches, but why can't they ALSO be exacerbated by the stress of lying?

Anyway, it's Durst and his twitchy presentation that make this documentary fascinating. If they'd made the documentary without any interviews from him included, he'd probably still be walking the streets.

He does have unusual mannerisms. He also apparently doesn't enjoy and actively avoids contact with people , preferring a solitary lifestyle skulking around smoking weed , using false IDs, and carrying guns and cash. And the occasional trip to CVC to piss on the Skittles. Pondering ever more diabolical ways to torment his brother. I would be in over my head to interpret his body language as a 'tell' I can 'tell' he's a sneaky weirdo

A news story just came out that he recently had neurosurgery and it's accompanied by a pic of him on court with a huge scar on the right side of his head.
A brain tumor could very well explain the facial tics.

I aree with Captain Morgan, that mannerism's a significan tell. Squinching up his eyes is way beyond nervous blinking. I think it's something he does when he's lying.

Ya but like I said to captain, he's talking about 'micro'expressions, small facial movements. People lie every day and they don't blink themselves out of the chair like Durst. I still maintain the twitching has nothing to do with any lying he may be doing, or every time ANYBODY lied, they would be physically telling in the same way and, hey, we wouldn't need jurys, we could just watch for the outlandish twitch and throw 'em in jail.

If you're familiar with the actor Ty Burell (plays Phil on Modern Family), he blinks like Durst. I've heard Burell does it when he's nervous, but he does it often (in and out of character), so apparently he's nervous a lot. I think I've also seen an interview where he said he's not even aware of his "hard blinking."

That's interesting. There are obviously more than one reasons for hard blinking.

I think that in Durst's case though that it is/was a neurological problem as he is shown presently to have a huge scar down the top of his head and the top is shaved, which tells me he probably had neurological surgery and his lawyers are making sure he's getting pain killers in custody right now, which the judge agreed to due to the surgury.
And watching the interviews a second time, he blinks hard even when talking about lighter, inconsequential things that aren't answers to hardball questions. And captain Morgan brings up 'micro facial movements as an indication of lying', Durst's twitches aren't 'micro', they're grandiose, so my point being, I highly doubt Durst's spazmic blinking is an indicator of lying.

LOL at Bridget. Thank you for repeatedly telling us your husband has tics. I like your reasoning that people lie every day and do not blink like Durst.... are you forgetting your average person does not have to carry the mental weight of being a serial killer, hiding their identity, living on the run and making sure the 10 stories you've fabricated hold together. That would put a lot of strain on anyone over 20-30 years, I wouldn't say the twitches could NOT be a product of this effort.

Just because your husband has that issue doesn't mean he has this guys brain. He could have had neuro surgery and still have a blinking tell, some of the time.

(I studied Pyschology and Criminal Psychology).

It all depends on the person really. Its a combination of his brain, whatever "tells" he may or may not have, and any possible external things like surgery...all combining. May not be just one thing.

Personally I think it may be both and he definitely "burped" in the most physically apparent twitch which came right as the most damming evidence was shown which is beyond coincidence in my opinion. So, even if he has some neuro thing, A. I don't think it makes a person burp, and B. he showed signs of tells being given away regardless.

Again, it all depends on the person. An amazing liar can lie with no tells, another one maybe cannot. If you add brain surgery to the mix all kinds of interesting combinations can then happen.

I totally agree with you. That's my whole point that everyone seems to want to argue with me about. Yes, blinking and twitching are not a SURE/ABSOLUTE indication of lying like everyone is saying. Could be, could not be.
Even the burping - he's 71, I know my grandpa has all kinds of weird burping/gas issues.
all in all, I don't think a person can look at such strange tics, sounds and talking to ones self as an automatic sign of guilt.
Eccentric or mentally off - yes. Guilty, let's slam down the judge's gavle and yell guilty - no.
