There have to be more kidnap victims hidden in cellars, I bet, out there

Only think how many more women can be kept locked up by some evil men out there as well. I remember every time a case like that came to light, people on the net asked themselves if it could be that there were more women like this out there - after the Kampusch case for example - and later on, like 3 years later there was the case of Jaycee. And after Jaycee there were folks on the net commenting on this that "you can only think how many more women like that could be kept in someone's secret basements" - and voila! - you got the Cleveland case as well, now. And here comes my question: how many unfortunate victims could there be out there. Only think of it.

Probably more than most could imagine. Add in trafficking victims and I would guess it would be in the hundreds of thousands at the least.

Those kinds of poor neighborhoods are in every city in America. Streets filled with boarded up houses and lots of crime. It is the perfect setup for somebody like Castro because boarded windows are not unusual around there and nobody will think twice about it. Just imagine how many Michelle Knights are out there where nobody is looking for them and nobody cares. The harsh reality about this sick world we live in.

First of all the area this occurred in isn't a ghetto, it is not an economically rich area but there are also many working class people in that area with homes, cars and good families. Second, there are human cockroaches in all economic classes of people. Yes even rich people rape, murder and molest children amongst other non-violent crimes they commit. Stop being such a jerk.

I agree. And I hope Law Enforcement thoroughly investigated Castro's 2 brothers, Onil and Pedro. They had to know something. There is a girl that went missing named Ashley Summers that has a striking resemblance to Amanda,as well as some other girls missing in the area. Would not surpise me one bit if they are as sick as he was.

I bet many of potential victims of this sort must be in Switzerland - all those bunkers underground. I bet if the Fritzl and Kampusch cases happened there and not in Austria, there would be many people claiming the police has to check out all of those to check if some creep doesn't keep another slave in there.

The Fritzl case was so sad. I read where the daughter held captive married her body guard. I hope she finally found happiness. That story didn't even sound real when I first heard it. I am not familiar with the Kampusch case. Off to google...

I was rereading the Fritzl case again last week. HORRIFYING. I learned that sick *beep* probably did it to his mother in an attic and maybe for twenty years until her death, albeit with less outright abuse. Not that being locked in an attic for two decades is not abuse, but compared to being repeatedly raped by your own father for twenty-four years and having seven children, it is clear Fritzl got increasingly more horrific.

Reading that case again made me see a link to and then read about the Kampusch case. So incredibly horrible.

I think about this a lot when these stories are in the news. The idea of others being held captive, that will never break free, or even waiting until we see another finally break free, is really difficult. We learn about these Cleveland girls, Jaycee Dugard, Steven Stayner, Shawn Hornbeck, and others because they got found alive, but what about others we'll never know about? As it was said above, human trafficking is a rampant, global, terrible situation, and law enforcement has trouble intervening and preventing it from expanding.

There are so many lost children; so many lost boys and girls. It's hard to think about. As awful as it would be to lose a child to murder (particularly if they suffered before, such as with a kidnapping or a rape), but I can't imagine what it is like to lose a child and not know what happened to them. Wondering if they are chained somewhere...

Then it is too much to think about those in Michelle's situation; where her family didn't actually care that she was missing. How many of them are out there, not as runaways, but as captives?

It is awful. I'm currently reading Michelle's book, and I can't help but compare my life's timeline to hers over those 11 years she spent chained and tortured. We are the same age, and whenever she mentions a date or year in the book, I mentally review where I was & what I was doing then, only a few hours away in Kentucky. Moving, jobs, having my son, celebrations, etc...so many great things, and for each milestone poor Michelle was in exactly the same place = hell. How if Amanda hadn't gotten them out, they would still be there, or dead right now. Then I get to wondering about how many people are suffering the same fate or worse at this exact moment, people and children long ago written off as missing persons, never found, presumed dead or runaways, but being held against their will to spend the rest of their lives in captivity and dying there, with no one the wiser about what ever happened to them. It's unfathomable. :*(

Just reading your comment, made think of many events that have gone on in my life at the time when these girls were in hell. We all know that there are evil people like Castro, all over the world; from Africa to Italy, Germany, China, America and everywhere else. What really bothers me the most about this story, is the fact that is went on for over an entire decade!!!!!! I'm in the tech business and a creative type person in general. I recall reading a story about Government planes flying over cities, mapping housing structures. The purpose, to determine whether or not people had illegally built new structures on their property. That got me thinking; sooner or later, if not already, perhaps we will be able to build drones or other tech, that would allow us to determine whether or not there are people inside, or underneath structures and have not moved from that location in a long period of time upon another scan/fly by. I know it sounds like sci-fi, but really, we have so much tech, that was sci-fi, just yesteryear.

Yeah i bet there is.
I cant believe the people slating this movie.
Its a small budget made for tv sort of film.
Raymond Cruz or whatever his name is still playing the fruitcake roles like he did in Breaking Bad and Training day.
The girl actors played there parts ok but the main girl Taryn Manning played her very well i thought although she looks very very young to be wearing those goofy glasses at the start like it was the 80's.
The ending i thought was sad and must be tough that she cant see her son who will now be 17-18 maybe.
A solid 6 out of 10 im giving it.
