Recasting The Defenders For The MCU

With rumors swirling about the fate of The Defenders, here are several potential recasts for each of the team's four heroes. The Defenders were the stars of several solo television series on Netflix, with Daredevil marking Marvel's first streaming outing back in April 2015. The show was a massive success with both critics and viewers, quickly becoming one of Netflix's most popular shows among audiences. Daredevil ran for three seasons and was followed by Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders, and The Punisher, spinning off into a self-contained Marvel Netflix Cinematic Universe.share
However, as a result of dwindling viewership and less enthusiastic critical reception starting with the first season of Iron Fist, Netflix began systematically cancelling the Marvel shows back in 2018. The first to go was Iron Fist, followed by Luke Cage, Daredevil, The Punisher, and finally Jessica Jones, making the third season of Jessica Jones the final Marvel Netflix property to be released. The reasons for the cancellations were numerous, but ultimately, the main factor was the impending release of Disney+, which would heavily feature Marvel Studios content. Had Netflix continued making the shows, they essentially would have been giving free advertising for a competitor.
Now that Disney+ has launched, Marvel Studios has planned a host of new television content for the service. And while there are rumors circulating regarding the future of The Defenders (including the possibility of Hulu picking up Daredevil for continuation), the likelihood is that Marvel plans on recasting the characters for future projects. Despite how familiar audiences have become with the likes of Charlie Cox (Daredevil), Mike Colter (Luke Cage), and Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), there are several actors who could take on the difficult task of replacing them in such iconic roles.
