What would you recommend for the best history of Nirvana?

So I watched this finally last night, a little disappointing for me. I am always more fascinated with the rise of an artist and what their first break was, that kind of thing. This doc was more about the inner Kurt, I get that, but can anyone recommend a good bio book or doc that more fully covers the rise of Nirvana and the formation of the band, that kind of thing? Thanks.

I think you're best watching a number of different documentaries. None are perfect frankly. Montage of Heck brings personal material in but is too slanted towards Courtney Love. Kurt & Courtney is anti-Courtney and has little music but does include interviews with a lot of folk who knew him including his first long term girlfriend, and you get a flavour of the early world he moved in.

Try reading Everett True's book "Nirvana" and Michael Azzerad's book "Come As You Are"
