A Underrated gem of a film
It's a shame this hasn't caught a audience outside Ireland, as it's one of the better films to come out of Ireland in recent years. At a brisk 80 minutes it's a easy watch, with a fantastic central performance from Seana Kerslake. She does a great job at making you care for Mary, as at times she's not a likable character but Kerslake makes you want the best for Mary. Charleigh Barkley as Charlene, Mary's friend and Tara Lee as Jess, Mary's love interest put in very good performances too.
I think this film has build a sort of a cult cause of it's central Lesbian romance, and it's nicely done and Kerslake and Lee have good chemistry. But it's not really the central thing of the film, it doesn't start to kick in until half way in . It's more about Mary and Charlene and Mary trying to find her feet and not depend on Charlene like before. Charlene, is a tough character to love for most of the film. She's a bit of a dick to Mary, but you can understand why cause of Mary's past. In the end they do redeem Charlene a bit.
But overall a very good Irish film with a star making performance from Kerslake.
