This remains one of the best shows around

Good writing, acting and execution. The writers plan ahead and I love that. They don't change the story on a whim, like so many other shows do. I don't think season 2 has been as good the first, but episode 12 almost changed that. Four was subtly different, but it was difficult to tell how different before the final curtain fell. Brilliant, absolutely brilliant!

Perhaps one reason why people like the writing on this show is that these guys are the same people who worked on the stargate franchise. Amanda Tapping has even directed an episode or two. But Joseph Mallozzi, Paul Mullie and Robert C. Cooper. Worked on SG1 and SG-Atlantis. Which were both very good sy fy shows.

I actually didn't know about that. I liked Sanctuary and heard she played a big role behind the scenes in that apart from just being the main star of the show and it would be good if they could get her to make a guest appearance in the show as well if she is willing to do it.

Any recommendations for similar shows in space?

In terms of current shows there's Killjoys (bounty hunters, somewhat similar to DM as a dramady) and The Expanse, which will be covering a series of novels by "James S. A. Corey" (pseudonym of two authors).

Lost In Space.

Currently running show, anyway.

Theres plenty of better shows, but they are all finished.

In the mass of whats currently running, Dark Matter is clearly a highlight.

I'm sorry but this made me laugh. With respect, I think you should watch some genuinely good series if this is your idea of a "good show" because you're clearly mising out. Dark Matter is extremely mediocre at best. Cringeworthy dialogue and directing much of the time, a cast full of bad stereotypes, questionable acting, ridiculous side characters and a plot that frequently doesn't seem to know where it wants to go.

What it does have is a good premise (although unfortunately not used to the fullest), nice sets and visuals, and some good twists like Ryo's character transformation in the second to last episode. However, I'm really disappointed to think of what the show could have been as opposed to what it actually is. It's a fairly weak, B level series but since space shows - which were once in such abundance - are sadly MIA nowadays, I watch it as a last resort to fill the sci-fi void.

I'll give it this: it's entertaining. Certainly worth a casual view to people who love space shows but nothing special. If you want real quality, watch The Expanse (the first sci-fi show in over a decade to genuinely do the genre justice), or the many classics like Battlestar Galactica (remake), Stargate, Firefly, Farscape, Star Trek and so on. Andromeda was pretty fantastic as well, except for season 5. DM is okay but it certainly doesn't come close to any of those in terms of writing, acting or overall execution.
