lots and lots of people saw this movie after its opening weekend.
here are a few numbers just to keep things in perspective.
deadline just reported that it's now likely endgame will come in at 2.75 billion, just shy of avatar.
endgame opened worldwide to $1.223b.
so endgame will make roughly $1.526B after its opening weekend. that number alone would make it the 7th highest grossing film of all time, just more than the avengers made in total.

that is remarkable in itself: endgame had a record shattering opening weekend, unlike anything ever seen, and then will likely make more money than the original avengers did in its entire run after that opening weekend.

if it ends up at around $815 domestic after its $357 opening weekend, that means it will have made $458m after its opening weekend.
that's more than any other film has made so far this year.
that number will almost certainly be in the top five of all grosses this year, probably top 3.
endgame destroyed the opening weekend records, stomped on them, obliterated them, and then made enough money outside of that weekend to be one of the top grossing domestic films of the year.


it had an unprecedented opening weekend.
it by all appearances was enormously crowd-pleasing, & it's one of the most critically acclaimed mcu films.
it will make at least $700m more than infinity war.

IMHO the drop is reasonable since it opened to the HUGE 357m. The 357m was made up extra shows as previews and during the 1st week. If there were no extra shows then the drops would have been gradual with the initial taking of in the region of 275-300m. Also, this movie was always going to be front loaded.

850 million domestic now looks out of reach. Heading to a 815-25 domestic finish. Unbelievable for a film that opened with 357 million.
