So Satisfying -- SPOILER

After two films, and over 5 hours of Thanos outwitting the Avengers, winning outright to end the first film, and being so brutally efficient, seeing him reduced to ash was so incredibly satisfying. When it comes to villains who presented such a real sense of menace, and who were so capable of causing harm, few, if any, come to mind who can rival Thanos, and when he went down, he went down hard. It was powerful, and the release of tension felt earned by the filmmakers.

I loved both movies but I do not get any sense of menace from Thanos. The CGI kills that for me. Thanos should have been a live actor.

reply

I don't think there was ever a moment where I even noticed the CGI. He really seemed like a living, breathing character.

reply

He was pretty convincing to me, too

And I agree it was satisfying to see him lose - for a second I wondered if Tony had consciously saved him for last, but then I realized that he was just that tough. The curse of his strength is that he had time to see his entire army get dusted, and let the defeat sink in, before he got dusted himself.

Reminds me of when I was a kid, seeing "Wrath of Khan" for the first time, and wishing they'd had a shot of Khan seeing the Enterprise escape.

In 2 films that featured over 30 Superheroes and featured Fights and ICONIC moments from these heroes that I never could have dreamed of, 2 films that Literally Gave me Everything I could have ever wanted from These Heroes....

and The thing I will always remember these 2 movies for is........... Thanos...

for Me, Hes the greatest villain and Threat ever put on film.

what was accomplished with him through Writing,Acting and Technology Is for me truly one of the greatest things Ive ever seen in movies....

from His absolute perfect character ark and Motives, To The Level at which His Power level and Fighting ability and strength was that Made His Character The Ultimate Threat(The Heroes couldnt beat him, In both Films, He went through them all, no matter what they did, how many teamed up against him, they couldnt beat him His Level of Power, strength and fighting abilty was written as The ULTIMATE Threat)....To then The Brolin's AMAZING performance in The role...to Finally IMO The absolute best Mo Cap CGI I've ever seen....

I can honestly say, I do not think of Thanos as a CGI character...I've watch IW 10 + times and EG 2 times...at no point in those movies does the thought Hes CGI ever enter my mind...The CGI and Mocap is so great...You truly IMMEDIATELY forget hes CGI

what was done with Thanos in These 2 Movies Is Just remarkable....

I truly believe in The next 5 years, when articles and Polls are done for The Best CBM villains or even Best Movie villains....

Thanos Is going to take the #1 spot in The Majority of those lists....

I think The future is going to be extremely KIND to Thanos and will be remembered and looked back on as the greatest or one of the greatest villains ever...IMO

Sauron?
Blofeld?
Orson Welles in The Third Man?
Voldermort?
HAL in 2001?

Plenty of classic villains out there. But for CBMs, Thanos is right up there.

reply

I don't think so. Quite doubtful he will get an Oscar nomination let alone win one. Second what was so deep about his character? He beat the heroes? He is so strong he can't be touched? Maybe i am missing something. I personally disagree and think you overrated him. I found the mocap for planet of the apes films to be more convincing.

I find Magneto to be a far more rich deep character than Thanos.

I thought Thanos was real cool dude. Remained convinced of his vision to the end. He wasn't the one to take over the world (in this case Universe). He saw a problem and wanted to solve it in his own way. My favourite villain.

Thanos for me in this movie was a proper threat. His army was laying down proper whoop ass and he was beating the shit out of everybody, even Captain Marvel. He was f'n shit up. His defeat resonated with me as a proper victory. If I wrote the movie, there's no Captain Marvel at all, and that scene involved Hulk's revenge.

reply

I agree with you FilmBuff. It was a MARVELOUS conclusion and certainly a fitting end to one of the best comicbook villains ever brought to life on the big screen. Props to Josh Brolin on his magnificent performance!

reply

Yup, fully agree. Well said.

I liked how he was almost able to get his hands on the gauntlet against these characters once again without having any stones already to help him. His power and menace throughout did not disappoint in this series.
