I mean just why? Totally unnecessary, awkward and indulgent. Having the director in an acting role and also playing a gay man......Same with the girl power bit at the end. Stop trying to be liberal and just make good entertainment.
It's not like they need to pander to gay people, not after they had the gorgeous Captain America give up everything for the love of the almost equally handsome Bucky! What a hot pair!
Of course I did feel a bit let down at the end, imagine ghosting Bucky like that, after all they'd been through together.
I hate threads like these - they populate my google ads with Atlantis all-gay cruises
I suppose there's some justice in rewarding whiners with the thing they whine about
Because there was NOTHING pandering about that Joe Russo character - exactly the opposite. It was understated, and served to show that Steve, being OK with it, was a worthy successor to Sam (because I still like to think that was the remains of Sam's VA support group, and Steve was there to honor his dusted friend)
So that was the director? I see the agenda here. I know he was probably trying to normalise gays, but at the same time, he just made them look sissy and weak. What does he say, "I had the dessert" or something really gay, lol.
There have been dozens of hetero romances shown throughout the 10 plus years of the MCU. Now we see one gay character in a tiny cameo and, no surprise at all, these internet neckbeards go feral.
Who gives a shit? Not everyone in the world is Christian and is anti-gay. I don't see gay people as being a liberal vs. conservative issue, they are a type of human being, and there are lots of them, so it makes sense that some would show up in such a big movie universe
I hope they take a big character like Professor X and turn him into a black lesbian woman just to see how many of you freaks have a stroke
Super hero movies are gay anyways. Finally the directors are showing there true colors and sexual orientation. Hate to brake it to you but if you enjoy super hero movies you are most certainly gay
Absolutely! What heterosexual man would enjoy films about very hot men who wear very tight clothing that shows off "America's Ass", and who quit their jobs to run off to Wakanda with their "best friend"!
Seriously, the Avengers films are as homoerotic as hell, which is one reason I like them.
Who the fuck cares? It was a 3 minute scene and it wasnt made to be a big deal, he just said he was dating a "he". Why are you being a snowflake about that?
Why was the scene even in there at all? Did I care about it? Not really, but I did think in the moment watching it, this was clearly thrown in to pander to a minority group. Like they made a checklist of things they needed to include just to avoid not being politically correct.
But again, so what? They made this one minor character gay, and weren't even that obvious about it. The character didnt even say boyfriend or husband or anything. So again, what's the issue that they did put it there? They didnt have a main character be gay and change a whole character. It wasn't a plot point. It was a throwaway line. It should have no affect, positive or negative, on anyone.
He said "the guy he was dating". It was clear the man was homosexual. The scene didn´t actually seem to have served any purpose except to say ,"look we have included a gay guy in the movie". It would have looked like an odd scene anyway, but making a minor character gay, made it obvious as to why they included it.
But is it worth making a post whining and complaining about it? Again you aren't answering why it matters. He was gay. He said he went on a date with a guy. Why is that upsetting people?
Because it comes off as disingenuous. Its not only a throwaway line but its a throwaway scene, it does nothing to advance the story and really should have been left on the cutting room floor but its very apparent why it was left in. Im not upset about it, but I can see why someone mentioned it in a post. Also, I feel like people are way overusing the word "triggered" when people take issue with something.
Why can't you just accept it as a normal thing? There's no reason he can't or shouldn't be a gay character. Would you make the same fuss if he was straight? Because if not, you're the real problem here.
So if it's a meaningless character then it's disingenuous, huh?
And what if it was a major character--like, say, Doctor Strange? Then you'd be bitching that they changed a canonical character's orientation
What if it was an original side-character with a small role, larger than a cameo, like Agent Coulson. Then you would bitch that "they don't need to mention his orientation at all. it's irrelevant to the plot." Yet the MCU is filled with tons of romantic hetero subplots that don't add much at all to the story
Did you complain when Kat Dennings's sidekick character in Thor was thirsting after Thor? She was not the love interest, so her attraction to Thor added little, if anything, to the story. But she was hetero, so I doubt you gave it any thought
The internet has become filled with crypto-bigots that try to pass off their disgust with minority representation as being based on logic and facts. It's like the right-wing saw how obnoxious, whiny, and self-righteous SJWs were and decided to create a right-wing version of that
Subplots whether you like them or not are part of the story. Whether they are hetero or not is neither here nor there, if a marvel character was gay and had a romantic relationship, it would be acceptable. Kat´s sidekick thirsting after Thor was just a silly attempt at comedy. I personally don´t care for that type of humor so I wouldn´t have liked it regardless of said character´s sex/sexual preference. This was clearly just to tick off Disney´s checklist of making sure all the minorities were accounted for so as to not face any political backlash.
Ok so you now know me now based on a few comments on this thread? And then you complain about whiny right-wing versions of SJWs, than proceed to act just as obnoxious and whiny...lol
Trust me, buddy, based on the few posts of yours that I've seen, you're definitely more obnoxious and whiny
You are complaining about a super-short scene. Who cares what boxes Marvel is trying to tick off? They don't owe you jack-shit. They can turn all of their characters black and female and gay, and MAYBE then they'll lose money, but so far with their inclusion strategy they are still smashing the box office
Sorry if you are a conservative, but Hollywood does not give a shit about your values or beliefs, and I personally am glad
I'm not woke, I'm just not going to cry about a fucking two-minute scene for hours and hours. Nobody would do that unless they had a good reason to. Like, I hated the girl power scene, but I'm not going to bitch about it for hours
You clearly don't like gay people but don't want to admit it. I'd love to have some SJWs here to make fun of, but there aren't any, so I'll settle for dimwits like you
Yet here you are whining and resorting to ad-hominem because someone disagrees with you. I don´t dislike gay people. Two people in my family are gay and I love them. This has nothing to do with my personal views about gay people. This is about Marvel pandering to identity politics.
Pandering with a tiny, tiny, tiny cameo scene. Several decades after the decriminalization of homosexuality and the AIDS crisis. Oh my lawd, when will they stop this horrible propaganda?!
You just admitted the "girl power" scene was contrived. That lasted about 20 seconds, more miniscule than this scene. Why is it so hard to believe they are doing the same thing in this throw away scene?
Because the girl power scene was WAYYY more in-your-face and nonsensical
There is nothing strange about a gay guy needing group therapy. The girl power scene made no sense, as any neckbeard on this board will happily explain to you
But I'm not going to hold a grudge against Marvel for either scene. Whether I like something or not, I understand why they do it. There is a big political war going on in the media, as anyone can clearly see by turning on the news
Hollywood, in general, has chosen their side. Obviously, they've chosen to represent left-wing values. No surprise, considering that almost all great movies have been made by liberal artists, I accept that, even if I don't always agree with them. Artists are a different breed and they will do what they do, regardless of how regular America feels about it
So a 2-3 minute scene will not get my panties in a twist. I'm straight myself, but i do have lots of gay friends and relatives. I understand why they'd be happy to see gay characters in the biggest movies of the year. It is a good thing for them, so I accept it, regardless of how poorly it is set up
Ultimately, beyond all their posturing, Hollywood will never give gay people good representation because big economy countries like China are still mainly homophobic, as a whole. So these tiny little victories are the best that gay people can hope for in big, mainstream films. So I will not begrudge them these moments, regardless of how poorly written they are. Because Hollywood is too cowardly to give them what they really deserve after centuries of abuse and oppression. If you think that makes me an SJW, then you can go suck a dick
So you readily admit that this scene was put together to give gay people, "little victories". That is pretty much what I have said all along and you attacked me for it.
