OT: how will they fit X-Men in the MCU ?

I was just wondering if they will have a new take on the XM to introduce and blend them into the existing movie universe or they will stay true to the comics? If they follow the comics it will be kinda hard to pull it off since Xavier and Magneto discovered their powers around WWII , so they would pretty old in present day , and that would be hard to explain where have they been until now and how nobody noticed , unless they make a separate X-Men Cinematic Universe i don't think it wil work.
In my opinion they should they just go with younger X-Men including Xavier and Magneto ,and make the origin story a little different from the comics.

Thoughts?

The X-Gene makes people age slower. That's how to explain that. Also fans are vehemently against changing Magneto's backstory. It is funny that if the comics are still around in 2041 Magneto will be over 100 years old.

Yeah i agree but my main concern is how would they explain the mutants suddenly showing up in the MCU ? Where they have been until now? I mean they can probably use some plot device like they have been undercover and concealed their powers , but it would be weird if they wake up u one day and say : " hey we are mutants and we have special abilities!"

They could tie the majority of mutants to the aftermath of the snap. Prior to the snap in the MCU there could just be a couple dozen that have existed for decades. I feel a couple dozen is low enough for them to remain hidden. Then after the snap thousands of mutants who had dormant genes finally emerge. Then have Professor X start his school for all the newly found mutants while continuing his beef with Magneto who have been "battling" for 50 or so years. I honestly don't mind if they make Magneto a hundred years old. He doesn't need to be played by a 70 year old actor either. The MCU could even say that the key mutant gene causes slow aging. They pretty much have the freedom to do whatever they want. And I think with Professor X just now starting his school there is a lot of room for the MCU to eventually get to all the characters and do them justice.

Though I admit it will suck having to recast them all again. I really don't see a way around rebooting the whole X-Men franchise or else the continuity problems become endless.

It would erase all the X-Men history, but I thought maybe the way the snap is somehow reversed might activate the mutant gene in those who have it. Again they wouldn't have their initial backstorys though which honestly wouldn't bother me much since I look at the MCU as it's own universe opposed to the main 616 comic universe.

But because not everyone would be happy with that, I'd say they set up a Secret Wars type thing that includes elements of Avengers vs X-Men. (Though with most of the original Avemgers probably done after this movie, I don't know how compelling it would be with newer heroes.) Just say X-Men got pulled from another universe that they inhabit by the Beyonder to fight the Avengers or whatever, but by the end they get left behind in the universe with the Avengers. (They could bring back Quicksilver in a way if they wanted to too.)

Great question...love the idea about using the "snap" as a plot device activating dormant mutant genes.

Another great question: How are they going to fit the FANTASTIC FOUR into the MCU?

reply

That should be a lot easier than the mutants , they'll probably do an origin story similar to Captain Marvel but set in present day , 4 astronauts on a space mission exposed to cosmic radiations and get their powers , like in the comics
