I just started watching Marvel movies and don't have the time to go through them all, I just want to see the one's I need to to understand what is going on in End game....
Which ones to I absolutely have to see to catch up?
hmmmmm tough one , id say you need to understand the origins of the infinity stones, GOTG, Thor, Dr Strange , Civil War would be a good fast track start
Here's my list of movies that contain plots relevant to the Infinity Stones storyline while also giving a good introduction to the main characters:
Captain America : First Avenger
Thor
Avengers
Captain America: Winter Soldier
Thor: Dark World
Guardians of the Galaxy
Avengers: Age of Ultron
Captain America: Civil War
Dr Strange
Thor: Ragnarok
Avengers: Infinity War
Ant Man & The Wasp
I add Thor just because Infinity War picks up right after Ragnarok ends and has Thor in an entirely different place. It's important to know how he got from A to B.
No I meant the infinity stones are obviously the BIG through line of the MCU and yet the hero who kicked off the MCU has almost nothing to do with them.
Ah, true. Every series so far has featured at least one stone as a major plot point except for Iron Man. And Incredible Hulk, I guess, but that wasn’t a series as it never had sequels.
I think the only films CRUCIAL to understanding it are, in the order you should watch:
Captain America: The First Avenger
The Avengers
The Avengers: Age of Ultron
Captain America: Civil War
Guardians of the Galaxy
Doctor Strange
Thor: Ragnarok
Avengers: Infinity War
Ant-Man and the Wasp
Captain Marvel
If you have time, I'd add Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Black Panther, and Spider-Man:Homecoming, but if you watch those 10 films you should have a solid grasp of everything that is likely to happen in Endgame.
For starters, because she'll likely be an integral part of the team, so it makes sense to know her backstory, much like Dr. Strange or Ant-Man. There's also the direct tie-in, much like Ragnarok, where we see a scene post-credits that leads directly into the upcoming film.
Another reason-- the source of her power is the Space Stone. She was imbued with cosmic-scale power after being bathed in its explosive force, and that could very well come into play when taking on Thanos. I can see a situation where her powers are ineffective, or even removed, when combatting Thanos and the Space Stone, or a reverse where she can negate his use of that stone.
I am not sure she can negate him if Scarlet Witch failed.
Otherwise, I'm sure her origin will be covered in Endgame the way the other movies cover origins. A quick "I met Fury 20 years ago and I can blow shit up" is good enough.
Scarlet Witch is an interesting case, and one I hadn't considered. She did not attempt to face Thanos when he had the Mind Stone, which is the source of her power. We DID however see that she was able to outright destroy that particular Infinity Stone, and it was only through manipulating time via the Time Stone that Thanos was able to undo her destruction. Based on that, I'm even MORE convinced that Captain Marvel can use her powers in an attack specific to the Space Stone, perhaps in conjunction with Wanda attacking the Mind Stone. Or, the two of them could in some way gain control over the respective stones and turn them against Thanos even as he wields them.
