Some guesses and theories...

To be clear I have no inside knowledge at all. This is all guessing.

1: it seems like Tony being rescued by Captain Marvel from being trapped in space seems to be the quickest and easiest theory... But I'm not a fan of that one. I think Tony is going to be introduced to a much more powerful being, The Watcher, Eternity, maybe even The Living Tribune. There has been talk that one of these might make an appearance, and this seems like a more subtle touch then just having them appear and begin fighting Thanos.

2: Building off of the 1st, Tony is introduced to a new power, and builds a new armor using the new power source. I'm not sure they will give it the exact name, but I'm thinking power Cosmic gets an introduction here. Its not new to the comics for Tony to build armor off of magic/alien powers, but it would be a departure for the movie version.

3: One or more of the heroes that are tied to the stones, somehow still exist within the stone, and can manipulate it to some degree. Gamora is the odds on favorite, since we know she is hidden away in the soul stone. But would it be so hard to believe that Vision could find a way to upload his intelligence into the mind stone? Or that Strange could find a way to manipulate the time stone?

4: The Incredible Hulk will wield an infinity stone. Of the beings that might be able to do this, it comes down to Hulk and Thor. Thor already had his "I'm a badass" moment when he survived the power of a star. Its time for Hulk to get his screen time. I was originally thinking how awesome it would be to have Hulk pull the power stone away from Thanos. Maybe it would make him so powerful that he can shrug off the effects of the other stones. But then I thought about him getting the Mind stone... and we have an incredibly smart hulk... that might be something to see.

5. We will get a flash back of Hawkeye, pacing in front of the tv, as reports of the Avenger's fighting the alien hordes can be heard in the background. His wife tells him to go, save the world. He insists that Cap and the others can handle it without him. And then the "snap" and Clint's entire family goes up in dust. The only problem with this theory is that the fight happens in Wakanda, so I'm not sure if the rest of the world is even aware its going on...

6. This is probably the biggest jump of all of them. Mephisto appears to offer Clint the power to avenge his family. Mephisto, was part of the original Infinity Gauntlet story, and it would be cool to see him introduced, even as a bit role to be used later in another movie.

What do you guys think? Any theories you guys want to throw out?

The only thing you need to know is that all of the superheroes will be alive and well by the end of the film.
Look at the marvel comics history - they've all died and came back from the dead like a hundred times.

Except this universe has one thing the comics don't.....contract negotiations. Evans has been saying for a while this is his last hurrah and Disney has been backing the Brinks truck up to downey's house each time they've wanted a movie made for quite some time now. I'm not sure how Hemsworths contract plays out or Ruffalos (I can see Hemsworth being smart enough to not shoot the golden goose).

so I'm going to guess at the finale, the heroes get a hold of the gauntlet and Stark (because....Downey. This hypothesis reads better if it's Evans) goes to put it on to undo what Thanos has done. Proving (going back to Avengers) that he has grown enough as a person that he's now the guy who will be "the guy to make the sacrifice play, to lay down on a wire and let the other guy crawl over you.". Cap says he won't survive it alone and grabs onto the gauntlet as well, Down ey says he'll die as well and Cap says (going back to Age of Ultron) "TThen we'll do that together, too"...healing the rift between the two. And they sacrifice themselves to restore the universe and dispel the gems (except for the gems Strange and the vision reclaim).

The only variable would be if Ruffalo, Johannssen (sp?), Hemsworth and Renner are also out. Because obviously, it would be maudlin and sappy and totally Disney if all the original Avengers joined in on the sacrifice.

Movie ends showing the world recovering and the establishment of a new Avengers team in front of a statue of the fallen heroes inscribed simply "Avengers Assembled".

If that happens it will be pretty much the end of the MCU. The movies are getting a bit boring at this point and two of the most popular characters gone won't sit well with people. Disney is either gonna recast those parts or slowly stop making these films and wait 10-15 years for a reboot.

reply

I feel like they are rebooting spiderman every 5 years - so you might not have to wait that long for a reboot @@

reply

Highly doubtful-- now that Marvel finally has control of the character, the Spider-Man films are excellent, and they fit within the larger narrative.

reply

I don't think I'm in the minority when I say I think the MCU films are better now than they ever have been. Critical response and box office seem to back up my notion.

Disney will continue making 3 MCU films per year as long as the profit is there.

reply

Still they have gotten sillier after GOTG....I do understand they still get good reviews and profit. Black Panther was not very silly but Ant man and Thor were downright comedies....

Dam has got.to break sometime. We have had over 20 films, 9 or so series and not ti mention all the DC movies and TV shows. People have to get tired of this stuff at some point. I give it 3-5 years and than we will see a downturn. Which I hope we do. Because it's gotten to the point that it's affecting my other favorite franchises that are not super hero films.....Fast and Furious come to mind....

Silly isn't the word I'd use. Nothing I've seen in any of the MCU films strikes me as remotely silly. Marvel's films have always had humorous moments and undertones, and starting with the first Avengers film they began adding greater amounts of comedy into the mix, but the humor has always been of a drier, wittier, sort. Humor in the MCU is of the Monty Python variety, and never ventures into the realm of silliness or slapstick.

As for the myriad other films capitalizing on Marvel's success in the genre, well, anything goes. With occasional exceptions, the non-MCU superhero films have been utter crap. Again, I'd argue that all but two, at best, of the Fast and Furious films that I've seen have been total garbage, but my opinion is colored by the fact that I seldom enjoy modern action films.

My feeling is that Marvel's films have been consistently great-- they've yet to make a bad film-- and in addition, have improved as the series has progressed. As long as they can maintain the level of quality they've kept up for over a decade now, they will see no decline in popularity or profit. Perhaps other companies may give up on the superhero genre and try to corner some other niche?

Interesting theories. Like a number of probable theories out there, we’re gonna have to wait and see if any of them prove to be right on the money (I gotta stop reading any more in case any come true and spoil the surprise lol). That said, getting a recap/scene of Clint witnessing his family disintegrating feels like a guarantee.

Now one popular theory that I personally think sorta has merit, is the Skrull theory. As Skrulls are going to be making their grand debut in Captain Marvel, it’s been theorized that some familiar faces in the MCU, be it heroes or villains, will ultimately be revealed as Skrulls in Endgame. This should be expected in Captain Marvel, but how about Endgame? They’ll probably be dealt with in CM but I doubt that will be the last we see of them. If they have anything to do with Endgame though, I guess we’ll find out sooner rather than later...

reply

Ooh ooh what if all the heroes who died were really Skrulls, and the real ones pop out and are like omg we're here! We did not die! And Cap is all like wuuut and they have a party and I don't know where it goes from there but, yeah. Thanos maybe shows up but I'm not sure if he parties or maybe he crashes the party and that's when the big fight happens but maybe he got drunk at some pre-party, or maybe even like Starlord tricked him into doing shots with him so he's not 100% and they beat him, and the final scene they're all dancing under a disco ball and the camera pans up and it's not a disco ball at all, it's the Infinity Gauntlet and the stones are making the lights.

I’ll do you one better...

I Am Groot!

I think Captain Marvel's role will be to use the Infinity Gauntlet (or the newly created gauntlet is those rumors are true) to "unsnap" everything. Her ability to channel and manipulate energy seems like the best bet to handle the power of the Infinity Stones.

Also, I have a sneaking suspicion that Steve and Tony will survive the movie one way or another. It seems like too much of a foregone conclusion that they die. Instead, they'll either retire, be brought to a different timeline, or maybe go off into space to ensure no one else will ever use the Infinity Stones or something.

Interesting theories, but some are maybe a bit too deus ex machina? Marvel tends not to rely on that sort of thing to wrap up stories, and doing so might make the audience feel cheated.

I do think there's merit to some of your ideas, especially about heroes being tied into the stones. We know that Vision, as Jarvis, was able to exert his will against Ultron even when he was in fragmented form, so the idea that Vision imparted some or all of his psyche into the Mind Stone before Thanos took it makes sense. He likely knew that Thanos could use the Time Stone to undo anything Wanda did, and that was a charade, albeit a powerfully sad one, he underwent in order to deceive Thanos. He may have shunted the seemingly extinguished lives into some other reality where they can be rescued via the Quantum Realm.

I also like the idea of heroes wielding Infinity Stones. I could even see it happening as an aftermath of the battle, where each hero can use a stone to make some change. Six original Avengers, six infinity stones. Hulk might well use the Mind Stone to merge he and Banner, allowing both to share both bodies, Captain America might realize use the Time Stone to return to 1945 and live out his life with Peggy Carter (or bring her into the present?), Thor could use the Soul Stone to resurrect Asgard's fallen people (hello Heimdall and Loki!), etc. Maybe Hawkeye will use the Power Stone to finally be able to stand toe-to-toe with his crew, LOL.
