I have a feeling Loki is the one who is going to defeat Thanos and get some sort of redemption; dying in the process.

I could see that. I know the Loki character is very popular, but I think he has run his course, his whole "Whose side is he on" had run dry for me in Thor 3 and I think due to the popularity of the character, he will never truly turn evil again. I think killing him in Infinity War makes sense.

yeah his time has passed. His own arc with Thor is done, all that is missing is he "Pay" for what he did to Earth on Avengers. I can't see him as a true villain, more like a family nuisance.

He seems to be taking the place of Mephisto in the original storyline. Meph ende dup betraying THanos, although he didn't die.

Yes. I don't know if they're misleading or not, but the trailer is cut that way.
