I know it's a term these misogynist pricks use to describe themselves, but there are plenty of men, and women (and bear in mind that it was a woman who originally coined the phrase to describe people like herself), who aren't having sex as regularly as we'd like. That doesn't make us rapists or would-be rapists, or misogynists/misandrists.
Admittedly, in my case it's partly because I'm borderline asexual and have conflicted feelings about sex. I see others doing and enjoying it, and wonder whether I'm missing out, and yet it's not something I desperately crave (I am however interested in, mostly platonic, relationships). Still, whilst these scumbags are hopefully very different to me, like I say, 'incel' is not a term I care for, because 'involuntary celibate' is a descriptor one could apply to many people, including many genuinely decent people who are sexually frustrated but not in a way that pushes them into hateful, violent and sexist thinking. Simply thinking to oneself "I'd ideally be having sex right now" doesn't mean you want to rape anyone or that you want to see anyone who is having sex dead.
An incel to me isn't just a misogynist but one who is angry at women because of a lack of ability to attract them. As such they spend their days complaining online about women they don't like. Their lack of attracting a mate makes then more hateful and their hatefulness makes them less attractive to a mate.
A man or woman who doesn't have sex as regularly as they would like is not an example of celibacy so the term "involuntary celibate" does not apply there. The same for those that simply don't want to have sex. They are voluntary celibates. Or celibates.
What about people who want sex and aren't having it all, but aren't misogynists and simply bemoan their situation without blaming anyone for it?
Also, what's the difference between a misogynist and a misogynist incel, except for the fact that the latter aren't the ones raping people or soliciting prostitutes?

Anyone who is celibate involuntarily would count as an incel. I'm sure there are lots of them who aren't always raging at women. Its just that when they rage about people like Brie Larson nonstop they make it more obvious.
I doubt non-incel misogynsts would be spending all their free time complaining about women. They either keep it hidden or vent their frustration from time to time. But the ones that complain online 24/7 are either trolling for lulz or have a deep frustration due to a lack of social skills that surpasses typical misogyny.

I never include rape with any form of involuntary celibacy. Those things are too different. In my mind rape has to do with a whole host of factors other than a guy being unable to get laid.

It depends on your version of incel. If incel is simply short for involuntary celibacy then yes you are correct. However incel is also a colloquialism that involves troll/meme culture, the manosphere, red pill, woke, etc that all kinda started after gamergate.

For me, the term literally means 'involuntary celibate' which can refer to a wide range of people including the lonely, and/or people who are unattractive and/or have poor social skills, but are not necessarily bad (in fact many people with poor social skills are decent individuals who are, unfortunately, on the autistic spectrum).
The second category of people, who are a subset of incels, could also be described as misogynists, MRAs and alt-righters. They're certainly scumbags, but they do not define all incels.

I agree, rape is a very serious subject and it's not something to joke. Rape traumatizes people, it can take a long time to overcome it. Let's hope no guy makes such a stupid and criminal act, for the sake of her, and specially for the sake of him: it would take years to recover from that experience :-(.
