I would flip/switch Captain America and Captain Marvel just because of the time frame, 1940's vs 1990's.

Good point but captain marvel tells the making of Nick Fury and the start of shield. The last scene Cap is already in the future and the after credit scene, Nick Fury is approaching Cap as a full blown shield agent. The order makes sense.

Start of SHIELD?

SHIELD happened just after the events of Captain America: The First Avenger, where SSR was changed into SHIELD by Howard Stark and Peggy Carter as referenced in the bunker scene in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Regardless of Nick Furys beginnings, the timeline HAS to start with Captain America: The First Avenger, you can't just write off 95% of the movie thats set in the 1940's.

As someone else said the start of SHIELD is indeed in Captain America:The First Avenger and as I think about it that's kind of knowingly disrespectful to Captain Rogers.

Regardless of what Fury did in CM in naming the program after Carol Danvers, Captain Rogers was the Original First Avenger and to me his Howling Commandos were his team.

If you go by that, the opening scene of Ant-Man takes place in the 80's...before Captain Marvel.

Same with Guardians.

And doesn't Thor The Dark Worlds open EONS ago?

I think you need to look at where the majority of the story takes place.

Great list, but how about watching Antman & the Wasp up until the end credits, pausing the film, then watching A:IW, then going back to watch the post credits scene for AATW.

That would be an excellent addition along with some other touches quite similar for a New Director's cut for Avengers:infinity War or even a Box set for A:IW and A:EG.

Back when Blu-Ray was a "Thing" content providers tried various ideas to supplement the viewing experience and to sell more media. Maybe it was to try and drive audiences away from DVD players and over to Blu-Ray players.

There was BD-Live, Augmented reality, Second Screen, etc as ways to make a more dense at home viewing experience. Second screen allowed an internet connected tablet to tap into additional content at a defined point in the film. If I had enough capital I would develop that even if it had only a 3 year life-span in the entertainment marketplace.

BD-Live failed like 3D failed because the marketplace never hit a set number for critical mass adoption that could pay off the cost of R&D and investment.

I was always curious about BD-Live, but I have to admit I never gave it much of a chance myself. 3D? While I initially didn’t care for 3D home viewing, by the time I did become interested in it, it was too late. Lol

Anyway, I would be down for a Director’s cut/box set like you suggested. Physical media for life! (For as long as it’s around anyway.)

As others have said, it should start with Captain America: First Avenger. We don't really need to see Nick Fury's origin first.

You can watch every Marvel movie without Captain Marvel and the story wouldn't change over the course of the films. It adds nothing to the overall story except forcing her into the narrative at the ast minute. Remove her from the overall narrative and nothing changes, the only thing Captain Marvel brings to the table is retconning her into the story. Very similar to "Raiders of the Lost Ark", remove Indy and the story plays out the same way, that is what Captain Marvel is.

She should have been introduced after Endgame.

Actually, she also fills in a gap from the first Iron Man, where Fury says to Stark, "You think you're the only superhero in the world? Mr. Stark, you've become part of a bigger universe. You just don't know it yet.". Since Cap was presumed dead for decades at that point and the Hulk certainly wasn't considered a hero at that point....Fury is referring to Carol.

After already watching them in order chronologically, I think the best way to watch is still in order of release. The overarching chronology of the overall story arc makes more sense when the end credit scenes are in order plus in the films that take place earlier in the timeline that released after the ones that take place in the present, there's Easter eggs that don't make sense unless you watch in order of release.

Also you should watch Thor before Iron Man 2 because it takes place at the same time of Incredible Hulk (2008)
