The character will never be better than Wonder Woman, yet Marvel has a knack of making likeable movies out of obscure super heroes, like Ant Man and this character.

shareMaybe it will be good, maybe it will be bad, but it certainly won't flop. A woman is the lead character, it doesn't have a novelty factor in that department due to Wonder Woman but considering how many female-lead movie there are out there and how gender-equality-girl-power-PC thing is still very much alive (at least in the States) I don't think things will change in the next 10 months or so. Also AIW raised the audience awareness and interest in Captain Marvel, if AIW flopped then CM's success would be questionable. However AIW is generally liked and I'm sure a lot of people will watch it just because it's obvious CM will play a big role in Avengers4.
Perhaps CM won't be that huge worldwide like GuardiansOfTheGalaxy, or earn as much domestically as Black Panther, but it will still be a success rest assured.

Black Panther made over a billion dollars, and that was not an A list character like WW. WW only made a little over 800 mil not exactly an unreachable mark for a Marvel film.
