shareI just returned from this movie, attended by half a dozen well educated, cultured, ladies of middle age. We all enjoyed it tremendously. The story may be simplistic, but authentic. As we see all too often today, some people who inherit fortunes take the world by storm simply by being cruel, bigotted, and hate-filled. Loved the Carnegie Hall performance for the soldiers and sailors returned from WWII. FFJ showed us simply by doing this that occasionally we capitalists are fortunate enough to luck out with someone so pure in heart and generous of spirit. We laughed when we first heard her attempts at vocalization, but we cried when she found others cruel enough to laugh at her. The story line of her first husband and ensuring life changing disease was truly heart breaking. Someone please mention the costume designer. An absolutely marvelous rendering of FFJ and her incredible wardrobe, both on and off stage! All in all... I believe Stephen Frears, Streep, Grant, and Helberg all should receive a nomination, along with the costume designer, hair and makeup, and set decoration. While this may not be an earth shaking movie, this was quite a lovely movie obviously made with a lot of love. ☆☆☆☆
shareGreat summary. It seems not being able to have a child was the saddest part of her life. This is a very good film and I see several nominations coming from it.
