An Oscar for Meryl and Best Supporting for Simon

I will be watching the awards to see if this prophesy comes true.

I would hope Grant gets a nomination. He was wonderful, and central to the emotions in the movie.

reply

Yes he was excellent.

reply

Although I doubt Miss Streep needs my support, I really hope that you are correct and the Academy takes notice of Simon. He was perfection and helped "make" the movie for me.

Be well and be kind

reply

I think all three may get an Academy Award nomination, but Simon has the best chance of winning. Such a good movie!

reply

Seems there's a lot of buzz about Liam Neeson in this category. We'll see.

reply

I'm rooting for Hugh Grant to get an Oscar Nomination.

reply

Another root for Hugh Grant. It was great to see him in such a nuanced complex role. He always had it in him, before he was typecast in the 90s.

reply

Probably a nomination for Meryl.

It's that man again!!

reply

Probably a nomination for Meryl.

I hope not! She wasn't that great. I found her attempt to be nothing more than a caricature. The same thing can be said for Julie/Julia and The Iron Lady. Caricatures of the real women. Hugh Grant on the other I thought was terrific!

reply

Yes, I could have easily seen other women in the same role as Meryl Streep. But I think Hugh Grant's performance took this film to a whole different level.

Come on. If he wasn't in a tv show, you wouldn't even have noticed him.

Not to say he was bad, not at all but he had nothing to play and the studio will definitely not waste time and money pushing for him to be nominated. They already have two well known actors to score nominations without much work.

It's not an either/or. Both Hugh Grant and Simon Helberg could be nominated for Best Supporting Actor.

reply

I think this will happen...Streep is beloved and anything close to the mark in the Academy's eyes usually results in a nomination.

I'd love to see Hugh Grant nominated. He has such an effortless quality about his performances (reminds me of Cary Grant), and because it appears effortless, people think it is, as if he just showed up on the set and started talking.

He deserved much more recognition for his performance in "About a Boy" than he received. I think he is due.

Oh what a falling off was there.

reply

I hope Grant gets nominated but he's in lead and unless this is a very weak year for Best Actor, he's unlikely to get in. He'll probably get a Best Actor Comedy nomination at the Golden Globes.

reply

I won't, and quit trolling, jidf!

As good as Meryl was, Grant was the standout.

What are your favorites?

reply

Not really. No one is as good as Meryl. She even did the off key singing.

reply

Please. Grant's performance was nowhere near the stretch that Streep's or Helberg's was.
