Sexism at its finest
I find it amusing people keep whining about the dad 'raping' anita while no one complains about the cops wife constantly doing the same with that beefcake synth.

shareI'm 5 minutes into the 1st episode and I'm already laughing at the hints of sexism.
- all female robots lined up are all topless, of course.
- Mum not available? buy a robot... and she better be pretty, or we're going to change her.
"all female robots lined up are all topless, of course."
So were all the male bots. So it's not sexist.
"Mum not available? buy a robot... and she better be pretty, or we're going to change her."
Everybody likes pretty things. That's not sexism either. It's just vanity.
The cop's Synth was called "beefcake" by his partner. I guess, in your world, that's sexist too?
Also, all you can infer from the Hawkins getting a Synth is that it wasn't possible for one parent (in this case, the dad) to handle everything by himself. You can't assume that means that getting a Synth would've been off the table if the dad was away andthe mum was at home.
Much of the cops wife stuff seems to have been cut out from the versions i saw on AMC.
But in any case the show seems to have this doom and gloom attitude about all things sexual. All the male to synth sexual relations were presented as immoral and abusive. The father only slightly less so.
Just because you have a libido doesnt necessarily mean you are going to be abusive.
Plus I think synths would spice up a marriage rather than wreck it. Husband and wife could have each have their own.
Admittedly there could be some problems that arise from such devices. However it could have many positive impacts on society as well. People that have good sex more are happier and less violent.
we shook our fists at the punishing rain
& WE CALLED UPON THE AUTHOR TO EXPLAIN!!!!!
Anita is sentient. "Beefcake" isn't.
shareAnita is sentient. "Beefcake" isn't
The show clearly establishes the stark difference between sentient and non-sentient synths, it's the basic premise of it, you can't write it off. It's not just old vs. new. Also souls don't exist, emotions, intellect and self-awareness do.
share"my Hyundai is sentient because it's newer than your old model Mustang" is how it sounds.
Agreed. The show just skips over all the questions about how a machine can become aware/sentient.
"my Hyundai is sentient because it's newer than your old model Mustang" is how it sounds. It's the 'computer will take over the earth' fear mongering for new technology. You can't program a 'soul'.
Program a soul? A soul is a religious creation, that is; there is no evidence of a soul in us actual humans.
"This is What You Want... This is What You Get"
I found both things equally disturbing.
sharePart of that has to be the way their stories were presented. We are shown more of Anita/Mia and see she has emotions and a family and whatnot.
What Jill did was bad too, but it was supposed to be to a "machine", so I doubt many viewers got angry about it.
Consensual Sex is not rape doofus.
