Detectorists' uniqueness is what makes it so beguiling, so I realize that nothing is truly similar (Rev. and The Last Man on Earth have a not-dissimilar feel -- smart, subtle, quiet, character-driven comedy.) But I'd love to have recommendations of shows that Detectorists' fans find vaguely similar (or at least shows they liked a lot). Thanks.

I just watched the first series of Detectorists last night and it made me really wish that HBO's Family Tree had gone beyond one season.
It's a Christopher Guest show, with all that entails: relatively understated, focused on niche pursuits and outsiders, empathetic and heartfelt... It was very charming, but just didn't find an audience.
You might also connect with the earlier Bryan Fuller shows if you haven't seen them. I'm specifically thinking of Wonderfalls and Dead Like Me
