Multicultural?

All the characters are white in 21st c Britain!

reply

They are in the country, which tend not to be as diverse, so not really that surprising.

reply

There is a young man in their Detectorist club who is Indian.... I don't find the homogeneity surprising, considering that it's set in a small town. You don't see many people at all actually.

they are more diverse than the metal detector club I'm involved in. out of 50 white people i think there is one asian guy.

I thought one of the ladies in the "DMDC was introduced as some sort of non-english speaking person, seemed almost spanish to me. So out of 7 people they have more diversity than many TV shows.

so far I love this show. Have always loved the work of Mackenzie Crook.

Yep. In the rural South East, they are. Well observed :-)

Why does this ALWAYS have to be an issue for people to constantly complain about in EVERY SINGLE SHOW? Can people not just enjoy viewing a well written and acted show/series anymore without bitiching and moaning that said show is not meeting up with some peoples own diversity/multicultural quota(s)? I mean does it actually take away from the quality of a show like this, or would it even really add anything more to what the show already has? I'd say the answer to both these questions would be a resounding NO.

This show doesn't take place in New York City or London after all.

usually the OP of these type of posts doesent give a shit, they are just attention seeking .

reply

Yep they are, not really a surprise. To be honest it is nice to see a show where the cast is representive of the area they are in.

If it had been set in Brum or the Smoke then yes I would expect a better mix but in rural England nope.

There are people roaming around these boards who like to see if they can get a rise out of people. One way is to ask why there are not a specific minority in the most improbable locales.

Why are there no Africans in this band of Vikings? Where are the Asian lesbians in thee story about a nunnery?

One was asking awhile back why there were no blacks in the scenes of Downton Abbey. Its a rural estate from before WWI to 1925. Some of the people living and working on the estate have been there since Waterloo. That's why.

I don't know everything. Neither does anyone else

reply

Never mind blacks or asians, who ever heard of women or someone under the age of 30 enjoying metal detecting? Like cribbage and a love for real ales, its a very niche past time.

reply

Well the club has three women in it
