sound quality was atrocious

maybe its just me but for most of this movie all i heard was mumbling and gibberish . what was up with the sound quality ? it was all over the place and at times i could have sworn the bad guys were talking in some indecipherabe code .

reply

Damned right about that. I have the sound all the way up and still can't make out half of what is being said.

reply

Completely agree I ended up having to use subtitles because I couldn't understand anything Darcy said

reply

I flipped on the subtitles a half-dozen times too.

reply

Dialogue is so difficult to understand in some movies these days. It is beyond annoying.

reply

Yeah I noticed it too. I probably missed about 25% of the dialogue throughout the entire film, and it definitely impacted my enjoyment of the film. How do they not notice these things when they're editing the movie???

reply

Totally agree...surely the production team/direction must notice this? very difficult to follow with such badly mumbled dialogue.

reply

I tell everyone I know to watch this movie with subtitles. I totally missed the "Band on Desert Island" talk the first time around because of all the low talking at the beginning.

reply

I could hear clearly, but only because I had the audio cranked up. Had to lower it when there was loud sound effects.

reply

It's not the sound quality. This is sort of related to the mumble-core "genre." I think the director was very adamant that this not feel like a traditional Hollywood thriller, so everything is toned down, including the delivery of dialogue. Whether or not that's to a fault is up to the viewer. I watched it twice and there were a few lines I missed, but it didn't really bother me.

I think it's a fault. The only major drawback of this movie. When you're trying to present this many confusing elements, people need to actually be able to understand what's being said. I missed a lot just because of the mumbling and was like "Why am I not following this?" There are ways to make dialogue realistic without making it unintelligible. And using subtitles takes away from the actual movie itself because you can't take in the scene. Film is about showing, if you can't actually see the show because you're busy trying to read this subtitles, you are being taken out of the movie.
