Because, I've seen this show and the English one starring Stephen Mangan, and I came away from both thinking the character is an utter jagoff.

This is my main problem with the show, and why I'm questioning should I continue watching. I've watched two episodes, and I just find Dirk Gently incredibly annoying. I do love Douglas Adams's other books, but I haven't read the books about this character. Is he really this irritating in the books too?
shareI dunno. I think he reminds me a lot of the character Kimmy Schmidt: they're both incredibly quick-witted, cheery and aren't quick to judge, while at the same time really childish, obsessive, naive and surprisingly gullible.
